Lots of good memories at this place. Shame that company was retarded and let a great thing go to waste.

I’m can still smell that sour funky drop down harness.

Does anyone remember the indoor theater type place where they had freezing AC cranking and you’d watch like a POV version of a euro car chase or something? I don’t think I made that up.

No doubt. Watching that video reminded me of how every summer we went, we looked forward to the rides that would be opened the next time we went.

A Huge part of my childhood memories involve Astro World, the Astro Village hotel(was it the Days Inn?), and the drive there and back to Baton Rouge.

I also remember the first Summer we went after Waterworld opened. That was the best Vacation ever. Three days at Astro World and two days at Water World.

There was some laser tag robot thing next to XLR8 that I must have done 2000 times in 1994

I’ve googled it to no avail

Mid 70's we did the same thing. My mother made ham, peanut butter, bologna, tuna salad, and egg salad sandwiches for us to eat. We didn't have enough money to eat out or the expensive food at the park and the Astrodome.

That was my 70s AstroWorld experience, too. You mom and my mom probably had the same big purse, complete with a thermos full of Kool-Aid.

Hell yes. That's what we did too. I think that was very common for vacationers from Louisiana and Mississippi. I was lucky to get a little Astro World Bat or a hat. We didn't eat much in the park.

I remember Astro World encouraged picnicking at the car as they had some trees and shaded picnic tables outside the gates in the parking lot.

Went there all the time as a kid - church group went once every couple of years and my parents brought my sister and I in the years between. Ultra Twister was an awesome ride, and I rode the Tasmanian Devil ride a few times in my last trip out there in 99ish. Astroworld on the first day, Waterworld on the next, some random museums and other stuff around town on the third. We'd always hit up a few Astros games as well - got to watch the whole series of the Stros and the '97 Braves, everyone in the group was there to see the Braves and I was the only one with an Astros shirt, the guy running the promotions saw me wearing orange in a section full of navy and red (even though the Astros started wearing navy and gold) so I got some free loot. I really really miss the Astros being in the NL after seeing so many games there against the Cardinals, Reds, and Cubs - still doesn't seem right that theyre in a division with Seattle and Anaheim.

Never went. We would always go to Arlington to six flags and wet-n-wild, now hurricane harbor. Do the parks for a few days and go see the Rangers play at night.

Speaking of the Rangers, the new ballpark is amazing. Can’t believe we would sit outside in the summer and sweat our asses off to see Nolan Ryan pitch. I’m getting soft in my old age.
Wouldn’t trade it for the world though

Yes, a white dome shaped roof. You go in and lay down and it was projected on the ceiling

we did this because our grandparents brought myself and my brother and my cousin and her brother. This was one of our fun summer adventures every year.

Yea. It was like a Planetarium. They showed Imax type shite to make you think you were flying or white water rafting and shite. Anything to get out the heat for a few minutes.

Horizons Theatre. It was right by to the Barrel O' Fun, right? Remember that thing? You stood with your back to the wall. It would spin and pin you against the wall, and then floor dropped. I think they got rid of that in the 80s.

I went a few times as a kid in the 70's and early 80's. Always remember stopping at the Mrs. Baird's store near the entrance to pick up a mini loaf of bread on the way out.

Also saw R.E.M. and Howard Jones at Southern Star when I was in high school. Miss those times.

One of my not so pleasant memories was back at the hotel. Me and my brother had just gotten those mini Louisville Slugger Bats with Astro World logo on em. My dad was walking from the room downstairs to the pool and we stood over the breezeway waiting for him to walk under us. We dropped our bats on both sides of him. Scared the shite out of him and he dropped his lil Igloo of beers.

I didn't get that bat back until a week after vacation.

Best pic I could find.
