Hey Fightin' Tigers lyrics

As much as I love this song, I think it's long past due that the lyrics get an overhaul, as it's unfair to our other athletic teams in that it's only about the football Tigers. Of all 38 our school's national championships, only 3 are in football, so, we need to rewrite the song so it pays homage to all our teams.

The lyrics were "re-tooled" for basketball. It sucks. Leave it alone

Hey look me over, lend me an ear,
Fresh out of clover, mortgaged up to here,
Don't pass the plate folks,
Don't pass the cup,
I figure whenever you're down and out,
The only way is up..
And I'll be up like a rose bud,
High on the vine,
Don't thumb your nose folks,
Take a tip from mine,
I'm a little bit short of the elbow room,
But let me get me some,
And look out world, here I come..
Fresh out of clover, mortgaged up to here,
Don't pass the plate folks,
Don't pass the cup,
I figure whenever you're down and out,
The only way is up..
And I'll be up like a rose bud,
High on the vine,

Yeah we need something to sing that makes sense while the band is playing the song at all of the baseball games, softball games, and track meets.

Plus, it promotes running up the score.

You do realize that Hey Fightin Tigers is not the LSU fight song right??
Here is the fight song:
Like Knights of old, Let's fight to hold
The glory of the Purple Gold.
Let's carry through, Let's die or do
To win the game for dear old LSU.
Keep trying for that high score;
Come on and fight,
We want some more, some more.
Come on you Tigers, Fight! Fight! Fight!
for dear old L-S-U.
RAH!
No mention of football or smashing through lines or anything

Actually the third verse of Fight for LSU opens with "We are the strongest, we are the bravest football team in history."

It's frustrating. I wish more people at LSU knew the words to each of the songs.
Pregame is actually broken into two parts. The opening is a slow, grandiose style of Tiger Rag (known as Stadium Salute to some of us) and it breaks into Touchdown for LSU.
Here's the words to Touchdown (as I remember them)
Tigers, Tigers, they've come to town
Tigers, Tigers make a first down
Give 'em the ball and you see how they go
Making a touchdown with their runs and passes high and low
Touchdown! Touchdown! It's Tigers Score!
Give 'em HELL and a little bit more!
Come on you Tigers! Touchdown, you Tigers!
Touchdown for LSU!
Rah U! Rah

Indeed, the right to use the tune was licensed to LSU in the 1960's by the owners of the rights to a Broadway musical, "Wildcat," which starred Lucille Ball. The musical opened in December, 1960 to less than favorable reviews, and didn't last a full season. "Hey, Look Me Over," the song from which "Hey, Fightin' Tigers" is adapted, is the only memorable (sort of) remnant of the show. The tune was written by Cy Coleman.

I'm not a big fan of this song. Nobody sings along like they do when the band plays HFT.

There was an older lady, who used to sit in my section, and who apparently worked for the Music Department for many years, who literally used to belt it out in this great operatic voice (the REAL fight song, I'm talking about).
She did the same with the National Anthem and the
Alma Mater.
Sadly, she stopped coming to games about 3-4 years ago.
