I’m commissioner of a league that includes my fiancé in it. Last night, she inadvertently dropped Kyren Williams instead of Mike Williams.

Is it right for me to instruct everyone to not to pick up K. Williams as she clearly did not intend to do so or is it bias in me toward her?

What do you guys think, is Williams fair game in this scenario or is he rightfully hers?

First take: Bring it to the league and let them decide. Being that both have Williams in last name, it sounds legit.

The real take: shite happens. You don’t want to set a league precedent. A friend accidentally dropped Kelce in 2019. #1 priority scooped and won the league.

Do what you would do if it weren't your fiancée.

In most leagues I've been in this would not be an issue.

You should be able to reverse/override the drop as Commish. I wouldn't be upset with you if I was in that league, but I might give you shite about it anyway.

I would have corrected it immediately. So much time afterwards, it may look a little sketchy.

Seems like an honest mistake, but yeah I'd give you shite about just because it's your fiance lol

Just override it.

This situation happens every year in a few of my leagues. It’s never really been a major issue. As long as the person who accidentally dropped the player brings it to the commissioner’s attention within a reasonable time, I wouldn’t have an issue. By reasonable I mean like immediately or if late at night then the next day. After about 24 hours I would call bs.

This is the right answer. Mistakes happen. Correct immediately and send notice to all what happened.

Like others have said, if someone alerts Commish immediately that they dropped the wrong player just correct it.

You can check in with the league first, but most (non a-hole) people won’t care

Notify the league that you're overriding the drop. It's very reasonable that she meant to drop the guy with the torn ACL and not the guy who is currently an RB1.

i mean, does it only list first initial and full last name?

i don’t really see how this is a reasonable mistake

IDK man, people multitask. Maybe she got asked a question while she had her app open making the transaction and clicked the wrong name. Stuff happens. Maybe she just fat fingered it. There's a reason autocorrect has become a feature for every texting app, search engine, etc.

I overrode the system and added him back to her team.

I may get some ribbing some from some guys, but a $25 league for fun, so not like it’s too serious.

I feel like the most drama always comes from “fun”, work and family leagues

Yea, if simple and obvious as a mistake- fix it.

If any material time elapsed or anything in their roster situation changed that would seem sketchy - bring it to the league

If obviously gaming it, shut it down

Nope. Mistakes are part of fantasy football. We had a guy last year do the same thing. It was his first year playing and really didn’t know anything about fantasy. Had to let it ride and let the bidding war begin on waivers.
