Power Ranking on CBS Sportsline

Who here knows the formula for the power rankings on CBS Sportsline?? We have been using the PR to determine who makes the playoffs for about 4 of the last 8 years. Thinking about going back to using the records b/c no one really knows what the formula is.
Does anyone else use PR as their standings?

You get points based on three things: Record, points scored and breakdown (what your record would be against each team in every week).
So, in a ten man league:
If you had the best record in the league, you would get ten points for that category. If you have the worst record, you would get one point.
If you have the most points scored, you get 10 points. Second most gets nine points, etc.
If you have the best breakdown record, you get 10 points. Second best record gets nine points, etc.
Then you add up the totals of the three categories. The Power Poll ranking is determined by who has the most total points.

Okay thanks, that makes a lot of sense now. we have 12 teams, so I assume the same format would apply?
What is your take on using the power rankings instead of records??
Is the breakdown sort of like SOS??

Yeah. Best team get 12 points, second best gets 11, etc.

I'm not a huge fan of it. I like for overall record to be the first thing used to determine playoff spots. Power Ranking is a great thing to use for a tiebreaker though.

Not really. Basically, you get a record each week that shows how you would have fared against other teams that same week. For example, say in week one you score 100 points and the other 11 teams score as follows:
90
103
102
110
89
77
100
122
88
82
93
You would have beaten six teams that week, lost to four teams, and tied one. So, your breakdown for that week would be 6-4-1. That record rolls over next week. So, if your breakdown the next week is 8-0-3, your new overall breakdown record is 14-4-4.
