Anyone know the scoop on this? It was Ichiban basically. Same exact food and menu. It opened as Ichiban and then changed its name shortly thereafter. Now I’ve gotta make a run to BR again for the sushi I like.

good question. tried to go there last week and it was closed down. Hello Tokyo across the street is always packed so, there's a market there. Hello Tokyo's hibachi chefs suck, the lady running the place is rude af.

Seems like another hibachi/sushi place with better service would do well.

It’s funny you mention that. I was telling my friends that’s about right for Gonzales to let it die in lieu of trash places like Hello Tokyo

There's always Geisha right down the road in Prairieville.

Hello tokyo isn’t that bad, decent place to go.
Geshia is probably the best bet for sushi now since aji closed.

I’ve had salt and light a couple times but not recently. Pretty good from what I’ve remember but they pissed me off when they raised their prices. Raising the prices of their food to offset the rising cost doesn’t bother me , but it’s when they don’t updated their menus and you order from their website menu and every went up 2-4 dollars.

Oki Japan is super underrated imo. Their sushi is very hit or miss (I think their fried rolls are better. Something with their rice recipe is Off). But they’re all you can eat is amazing. Load up on Goyza, shrimp noodles, and teriyaki shrimps.

Hello Tokyo

I was in High School when it first opened and everybody was going to it. I went a few weeks ago when visiting family and it looks like it went to shite inside. Everything looked worn down. The food was actually pretty good so maybe that's what is keeping it afloat.

Have you tried salt and light? It’s in the parking lot next to office dept in Gonzales. Our family would much rather Salt and Light over Hello Tokyo.

I used to work around the corner and I would almost always pass up Ichiban to eat at Hello Tokyo.

Hello Tokyo just had better lunch specials and Ichiban was too damn expensive. Place would be empty on a weekday while Hello Tokyo, while never packed, had a nice lunch crowd.

Sorry to see them close but not surprising.
