Any Griswold experts on here? Is this one fake?

Picked it up today, #80 size 8 bottom half 1103A
It’s not marked Erie PA or 1103

Look like its seen some miles and is a nice pan. Other than that does it really matter?

It does when you are trying to sell it.
I believe it’s real due to the look of the age, etc (like you said).

I suspect this is a fake. For the “Large Logo” skillet made from roughly 1920-49, they were all marked “Erie, PA., U.S.A.” Also, all were marked “ CAST IRON SKILLET” and the size number. Most had model number. The earlier skillets were differently marked but, this one has the “Large Logo” and thus would have the markings I described. Here’s one of my large logo skillets to compare. Also note differences in logo type. Griswold never used that “typeset”
Here’s a #80 large logo

It's probably real, but it is waaaaay down on the collectable scale

Looks like the old markings to me. I don't know about not being collectable, those old marking pans are usually listed $200-$300... I personally go for the cheaper American made cast iron but if I saw a Griswold for a good price I would probably flip it...

Yes, there were pans made without the Erie, PA.. However, they had the slant typeface on the Griswold. Regardless, I hope he uses pan and gets great enjoyment from it. If he’s going to flip it, he may be disappointed in what it fetches

I think it’s only worth $50-$75, I’m not expecting big money from it.

You should be able to get that . Condition is pretty. People will pay for usable vintage cast iron. Did you get the mating top, as this was originally a “double skillet”?

No, the had a mating top for it, but it was not Griswold, and they wanted another $30 for it, so I just took the bottom half.

I thought you meant Clark Griswold.

I already have a couple nice pieces of Griswold, including a #10 Dutch oven and a fryer like this one.

Looks like an older design Griswold manufacturer... I have one the same without the 1102 and use it extensively for frying anything that needs added space for steaming. I went to the ARC or Goodwill and found me a nice glass-lid for its cover and I'm happy with its accomplishments. Besides, the real fake ones have severe pitting inside and out. Avoid those to prevent iron contamination with your oil or food.
