Anyone make their own Kahlua or use a cheaper alternative?

Been on a White Russian kick lately. Hate buying the expensive stuff. Is dark rum the best thing to use when making from scratch? Any good alternatives out there?

Isn't a handle like $30?

Yes. Not worth the effort to try and make your own over $10 or so.

As mentioned, kamora is what you’re looking for.

I've made it several times. Have also used Kamora and other, cheaper coffee liquors. Kamora works just as well and you really aren't saving much by making your own. You can, however, adjust the flavoring to your liking if you make your own and even make it with decaf coffee if you are sensitive to caffeine.

Too damn much, my man. Lol

I’ve thought of making it with cold brew chicory coffee...

I am also interested in making it. I have made cafe or coffee cello and it came out great! Be t time I want to replace the high grain neutral spirits with 151 rum.

St. George NOLA Coffee Liqueur is a chicory style coffee, but it's more expensive than Kahlua

Several liqueurs beside Kaluha are pretty easy, Limoncello, Gran Marnier take a little time and work, but excellent. I had to lay off due to the sugar.

We used to use Cayman Reef coffee liqueur but I can't seem to find it anymore. I think the Kahlua price has jumped and is closer to $40 for a handle.

We went on a Sazerac tour and they sold us on their coffee liqueur. Columbo. I prefer it now because it's not sweet and has a nice roasted finish. It's pricey but I'll gladly pay the extra $1 over Kahlua.
