Grandma Garner's Bacon Grease Cookies
1 cup solidified bacon grease
1 ½ cup sugar, plus more for rolling
3 cups flour
2 ½ teaspoons baking soda
1 ½ teaspoons cinnamon
½ teaspoon ginger
6 Tablespoons molasses
2 eggs
Sift dry ingredients together. Add eggs, molasses and bacon grease. Mix together.
Form dough into balls and roll in additional sugar. Don’t flatten cookies.
Bake at 375 for 10-15 minutes.

Sounds good, but looking for clarification on one issue.
It says 1 1/2 cups sugar, am I to assume that goes into the dough and you use extra sugar to roll the dough ball in to coat the outside-----OR, you make the dough without the sugar and use it to roll the dough balls in prior to baking???

The poster looking for beef tallow ideas should try this recipe.

Since the recipe says "roll in sugar", not "roll in THE sugar", I think the 1 1/2 cups go in the mix.
I have not made this myself, but some parts of the web are going wild over it.

Cookies are, in most cases, pretty sweet baked items and figured the sugar went into the dough, but was looking for clarification, and with the accompanying pic, I assumed you had made them and that was the final result.

I don’t make cookies, but want to try these.
Does that amount of sugar (in the mix) seem about proportional to the other ingredients?

Yes it does. I make chocolate chip cookies a few times a year and the first time I made them I thought it was WAY too much sugar, but it wasn't.
I use the "Neiman Marcus Recipe" that was a BS story on the net many years ago and that recipe will yield between 90-100 nice size cookies and it calls for a total of 4 cups of sugar, 2 granulated white and 2 cups of brown sugar packed tight.
