It’s Restaurant Week in Baton Rouge. What are you trying this week?

Restaurant Week

Not going anywhere I haven’t been before, but looking at some places we haven’t been in a while like Elsie’s or LaContea.

None, because restaurant week is just a scam by all the local restaurants to make up mediocre three course meals that would cost about the same on any other week of the year.

Iverstine's looks good and probably a decent price for what you get.

quote:

Iverstine Butcher-$55

APPETIZERS

Smoked Sausage Board
with house pickled vegetables, cheese, and whole grain mustard

Chorizo Queso Fondito
Mexican Chorizo, Roasted Poblano Peppers, and Oaxaca Cheese

Grass-Fed Beef Tartare
with Capers, Farm Fresh Egg Yolk, Onions, and St.Bruno Toast

ENTREE

Pork Coppa Steak
With a Honey Bourbon Glaze, Boudin Dirty Rice, and a Pear Relish

Wagyu Denver Steak
With Chili Compound Butter, Fermented Frites, and Lime aioli

DESSERT

Lemon Posset
German Chocolate Pie

Other than that, we might try to make it to Solera or Cecilia.

Iverstine’s is always solid.

And why all the vitriol over Restaurant week? Is it just cool to hate things? Is somebody forcing people to attend against their will? Are people just this miserable in their lives? Damn!

People are simply stating their opinion about something. What does being miserable and vitriol have to do with anything?

Eh. Restaurant Week used to be pretty solid, as the menus were from $15 to $40 max. A lot of places were on the $15-$20 menus -- not just short order type spots.

A lot of restaurants got into it and created special menus specifically for it. Also, you had several places do soup/salad, appetizer, and entree so you weren't forced to get dessert if that's not your jam.

It is understandable the prices have crept as things have gotten more expensive, but they've mostly all gone to just pairing random 3 items from the existing menu. So now you're forced to spend $50 on 3 existing menu items when you probably weren't going to select those if it wasn't restaurant week.

We stopped doing RW when we realized that each time we tried, we ended up ordering a la carte and tossing the RW menu aside.

EDIT - I say all that, and I'm doing RW at Ruffino's tonight. They have a new chef who is talented, and the menu looks to be all things that aren't normally served. Pork chop especially sounds great.
