Looking for options for a friend who had dental surgery and can't have anything solid for a few weeks, but wants to get out. Any ideas? TIA

Crab and Brie @ Mansur's and/or French Market Bistro is pretty legit.

If your friend can't have solids, I would not get anything with corn in it.
The La Madeleine tomato bisque is a good suggestion. It's rich and tasty. Any potato soup can work, but may need to be put in a blender or pureed with an immersion blender if chunky. You can do the same with a ground beef chili or any bean soups. Just puree them and they'll be fine. You could do this with red beans if you omit the rice and either remove or puree any meats. Popeye's red beans are pretty darn soft.
You might find something at a place like Bergeron's which has prepared foods and soups in the fridge or freezer.
A plate lunch type restaurant might be serving white beans as an entree. That could be pureed, but omit the rice.

Mansurs used to make a sirloin-onion potato soup that was unreal good.
