Putting on a birthday party in Baton Rouge next month and need to order a cake. Who has the best bakery in BR right now? Initial thought was Baums, but I figured the F&D board would be up to speed on who is on top right now.

How is the Happy Baker next to Tommy's Fish House?

I need one that bakes bread. Baums used to make a great round rustic Italian loaf but they quit that years ago.

My wife has been hitting them up a lot lately. Good stuff, go early before they sell out.

Ambrosia

One of the Loupe Garou's classics:

quote:

When the state worker birthday rolls around, their popularity among the civil service set is measured by whether they get a sheet cake from Albertson's or a doberge from Baum's or Ambrosia.

that's pretty funny

reminds me of growing up when we'd have king cake at school. you always hated the kid who brought anything but gambino's or cake palace king cake.

tastee donut's was always my favorite. I don't remember if Jay's Donuts was open then.

But yeah, the generic grocery store cakes were always a downer...i hated when poor kids would get the baby.
