The best I've found is Burger's Smokehouse in California, Missouri. Does anyone else like country ham? You know the really tough and salty ham that has be be sliced thin so you can chew it? Anyone have any other suggestions on where to buy?

I would like to be able to find old school boiled bone-in ham. Boiled as a result of being cured with assloads of salt, but when sliced in paper thinness the most amazing morsel to make a sandwich with in fact

I ordered one from Virginia Traditions for Thanksgiving. I really wanted to like it, but, honestly, I'm more of a city ham person.

Benton's.

LINK

I literally just happened upon this place on a road trip to Tennessee about 6 years ago. Sort of reluctantly stopped and went in. Old dude went on about how he was starting to sell his stuff to New Orleans restaurants and had several accounts in New York City. Thought he was full of shite at the time, but picked up some ham and bacon from him anyway.

His stuff was the bomb!

Lo and behold, I get back home and slowly start seeing Benton Ham and Bacon appearing by name on several local menus and see write ups about him in food magazines and the New York Times.

You can get real country ham at Waffle House and it's pretty good. Winn Dixie carries whole country hams around this time of year and they can slice it. Goes great in beans too.
