Best "local" cajun food in Baton Rouge

I have a friend driving through Baton Rouge tonight and would like to stop for some Cajun food. What are the best places to eat that are not chain restaurants? Looking for something authentic. TIA.

Parrain's?
I think Cajun food in BR is pretty bad and if I want red beans, jambalaya, gumbo, or sauce piquant... I'm just gonna do it myself.

If you mean fried seafood platters and maybe fish dishes or poboys.... Parrain's, Louisiana Lagniappe (nicer place), Dempsey's, Sammy's, Chimes...
If you mean what we eat at home (red beans and rice, jambalaya, gumbo, etouffee, etc.), restaurants don't seem to do them much or well.
Chimes has a good variety though. They have good red beans and etouffee and an okay duck gumbo. And blackened alligator.

This would be my pick. It's one of the things I miss about BR.

Although not a traditional Cajun dish, the boudin omelette there is on time.

Well to be clear they are more of acquaintances than friends. They are also from Oklahoma so I have no idea what their definition of "Cajun" food is. I will just give them all the names provided and they can choose for themselves. Thanks for the advice.

Chimes would be the best option IMO
I find that a lot of out of town people I know say they want to eat "cajun" food and then I take them to Chimes or something and they order a chicken sandwich

I don't understand why there always has to be this response in every thread like this.

It irks me if we're talking about any other kind of food, but when an out of towner says they want stereotypical cajun food, we don't have a lot of it in restaurants, unfortunately. Hell, I wish we did!
Still, you're right. It doesn't answer the question unless the poster is inviting OP over
