Inspired by the Top 10 po boy thread

Between Hammond and Slidell

Oyster, Shrimp, RB, or anything good.

I've always thought that making good po boys should be easy...use NO french bread, cook your proteins well and overstuff them, thats the main parts. Yet I've had crappy po boy after crappy po boy in the Hammond area time and again.

Saia’s Mandeville hits pretty good.
Scooters in Madisonville has been solid.
Dons - sure.

Ham and cheese dressed at Saia’s

Roast beef at Big Bear’s

Both a couple blocks away from each other in Mandeville

Ponchartrain Poboys in Mandeville has great poboys, and great onion rings, along with your usual New Orleans/Chalmette fare.

Ponchartrain Poboys in Mandeville is good, but DiMartino’s in Covington has them beat.

B&J'S Seafood has a pretty good shrimp poboy. I hear their roast beef poboy is good also. but I haven't tried it yet.

Stuffed has a decent RB poboy.

All Hammond places fall short compared to how good Louisiana Gold used to be years ago.

You probably know all of this already. lol

Not sure if they’re the best but Fatboy’s opened back up at Manchac. The owner was diagnosed with lung cancer. Said she be back and she is! Damn good food, including the poboys. Only open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays during the day. Cash only unless it’s changed. If you get a chance, give her a visit. :)

I make my Poor Boys with Walmart french bread and crispy fried crappie fillets. Lettuce must be shredded, not leaf. Tomato must be paper thin sliced with a fillet knife. Skip the roumelade. Duke's mayo on both sides, and your favorite hot sauce to taste. I fry my crappie in spicy batter so I don't generally add additional hot sauce to mine. Serve on a Dixie paper plate with Zapp's chips from New Jersey and an ice cold Bud Light.

I'm thinking of opening my own pop-up on the Northshore called Crappie Poor Boys and charging $30 a sandwich.

Rb at Bears in Covington is the correct answer. Pontchartrain in Mandeville is a close second

Best shrimp poboy on the Northshore is Peck’s in Slidell hands down. After you’re done there are at least a dozen jumbo shrimp on the butcher paper. Overstuffed and fried perfectly.

I live right by Bears and Saias.

Bears hot ham and cheese is a great sandwich. My complaint with them is pricing and hours. A ham and cheese sandwich is almost $20 out the door. They don't have great hours.

Saias has my favorite roast beef poboy and it's like $10. Not a fan of their shrimp poboy, but the RB is killer.

Roast Beef PB and Shrimp PB are my two faves at Bears in Covington. There are people who love their Ferdie as well but it is way too salty for me. I'm not really salt sensitive- but damn it's salty.

Bears RB is tops- The RB is the only thing I have ever ordered there.

Aquistapaces make a good catfish - 12in is $15 I think
