What type of seafood? Fried or say fish dishes with shrimp or crab with a sauce type dishes?

It’s crazy how a city like BR could be so geographically close to a city like New Orleans and have such a mediocre food scene.

Willie's is pretty good

While not technically in BR, Roberto’s River Road Restaurant has the best seafood dishes in these parts.

There are dozens of good restaurants in BR; you just have to know where to look.

Exactly, dozens. I’m not saying they’re not good restaurants in BR. I’m saying they’re not many and you’ve really got to look for them.

Parrains is good, but Louisiana Lagniappe is the best imo.

Do you ever stop and think that its proximity to New Orleans might be part of WHY it has such a "mediocre" food scene?
First of all, Baton Rouge is NEVER going to shine next to New Orleans. It's always going to live in the shadow of one of the arguable top 5 (definitely top 10) food cities in the world which also happens to be an internationally renowned tourism destination. Baton Rouge could have the best food scene in the country for a city its size and still look like crap next to the Crescent City.
Second, New Orleans with its famous eateries is so close that people desiring that kind of eating out experience are willing to drive the 90 minutes down there to have that experience rather than patronize restaurants in their own town. I mean, New Orleans is RIGHT THERE! People driving down to New Orleans for a meal definitely puts a major dent in the demand for similar level restaurants in Baton Rouge since NOLA is close enough that a high-caliber BR restaurant still has to compete with the established NOLA restaurants for the relatively small market for high-end dining.
Third, New Orleans soaks up the tourists even when BR is their destination. Baton Rouge isn't exactly a tourism mecca, but when travelers are coming to Baton Rouge (primarily for LSU sporting events), since NOLA is right THERE, they opt to spend at least one night in New Orleans. I mean, why not? Tourists are far more likely to spend their few meals in town eating at high-end restaurants than locals, and New Orleans's proximity allows it to leach most of those precious few tourist meals from BR's scene.
Finally, BR's scene really isn't that bad compared to other cities its size. It has a lot of room for improvement, but it's not like it's hard to find a good meal in this town.

Louisiana Lagniappe is good. But they do a lot of sautéed fish dishes that all come out tasting very nasty oily. They just aren’t good if you order those dishes. They should be avoided in my opinion. And for a restaurant such as this that should never be the case.

That's the sad part. I really don't. I just feel like it gets a heap of unnecessary hate. It's not great, but it's not nearly as bad as the posters on this site act like it is.

I'm assuming this means kids so I'd go to Parrains or Robertos if you don't really care about price. If you want to just get fried seafood Sammy's is fine although it gets shite on here, but it's perfect for a 10 year old to get a fried shrimp platter, imo.

parrains, LL are both solid choices
I am willing to bet Sammy's is going to be too salty after eating the CFS from there last night
The best fried shrimp in BR I have had has to be from Unami.

Baton Rouge has grown and come so far, so fast, it's mind blowing.
I remember when the only restaurant on Siegen lane was McDonald's.
