Looking for some of that Texas German style beef sausage. Is it possible to buy any in Louisiana that's any good?

Maybe even some jalapeno cheddar sausage as well.

I've always liked Chappell Hill. Always stop by when going up 290 way.

Unfortunately it looks like it will cost about $40 to have some shipped to me.

If you like the German style, Kreuz's is fare. But personally I think Louisiana makes much better smoked sausage. I get this from the Farmer's Market at Pennington on Thursdays. Their's is hickory smoked and a bit better than what you'll find in Texas.

Cutrer's

Ralph Frey from Mowata also produces an outstanding product and although a cousin to the New Orleans LA Frey family, it's great to see the Frey name again in meat packing.

I'm not sure if it is considered 'German style' but this sausage from Elgin, TX is awesome. I think it is the oldest BBQ joint in TX, established 1882. The sausage was widely available in grocery stores in TX, not sure in LA.

I've had Southside Market's sausage a few years ago and it's very good. Their combination of black pepper and smoke is very tasty. Appreciate the post because I've wanted to order from them. Their barbecue sauce takes the sausage to the next level.

It's good on the grill and also cooked on a low boil, on the stove in water, halfway up the link, til the skin gets crispy.

I am really liking this Charlies sausage made with boar meat. Very good sausage.

This is a Texas made beef sausage. Kiolbassa..... Available at Sam's for like $13.?? for 40 oz package. Really good! I love it! My "go To' Sausage now.
Costco has it too but for 3 bucks more a pkg.

Not sure what's available in LA but here's some recommendations (obviously nothing more than my experiences and preferences):

Above average
Slovacek
H-E-B Beef Sausage (doubt it's available outside of H-E-B stores)
Shiner jalapeno

Average
Kiolbassa
Eddy
Prasek

Below Average
Holmes
Burton
Chappell Hill

FTR, if you're anywhere near Rabideaux's in Iowa, LA (2 mi south of I-10 at Exit 44), there is none better ('cept maybe Teets in Ville Platte). I don't anything but LA pork sausage in gumbos, jambalaya, shrimp-n-grits, red beans, etc.

But I like the TX beef sausages with brisket, ribs, etc.

I've been trying to find a sausage like the "Texas Hot Guts" sausage every time im in a different grocery. So far haven't found anything that looks similar. I wonder why somebody hasn't caught on and started packaging some to sell off the shelf?

My go to sausage has always been Zummo's. I pick up several packs whenever I'm near Beaumont. The Party Time links are always a favorite.
