I'm planning to make some home made Bloody Mary mix this weekend. Does anyone have any good recipes they recommend? Spicy is preferred.

The last time I made it myself I followed the recipe from The Publican in Chicago:

1 quart tomato juice
1/4-inch fresh horseradish, chopped
1/2 anchovy
1 teaspoon Sriracha
1/2 tablespoon Chinese hot mustard
1-1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire
1/2 lime, squeezed
1/2 lemon, squeezed
1 tablespoon vodka
dash of black pepper
dash of Old Bay Seasoning
dash of celery seeds

- Blend horseradish, Worcestershire, anchovies, Sriracha, mustard and spices until completely smooth.
- Add lemon, lime and tomato juice and blend. Taste mix and adjust spices as needed.
- Add tablespoon of vodka to stabilize the mix and keep juices fresh.
- Refrigerate and let mix marinate for 24 hours.

I use regular V-8 and kick it up with horseradish, celery salt, Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, homemade habanero sauce for kick, fresh lemon juice.

Can't really give any accurate measurements because I just pour the ingredients in without measuring, but I've done it so many times it always tastes the same when done.

ETA: The V-8 is the large can, not the little individual cans. I think it is a 48 oz. can.

Zing Zang/ thread. I hate when I got to a bar and some hipster is like we make our own homemade mix. 90% of the time that homemade mix is going to be terrible, don't get fancy just give me zing zang.

And I can't f-ing stand Zing Zang. All I can taste is celery when I try that mix.

This looks great! I will try. About 7-8 years ago this guy would bring 2 gallons of homemade mix that was given to him by Owen Brennan. It was outstanding, he gave me the recipe but I lost it or miss placed. I like made fresh. In a pinch zing zang is good but it’s just match made and nothing really special with all the additives flavorings.

The last time I ordered a bloody mary at a trendy new restaurant, their house made mix looked like spaghetti sauce it was so thick. It tasted great and would have been great over pasta, but I could hardly drink it because of the thickness
