I know nothing beats made from scratch and I can make these from scratch but for an easier quick meal, how are the Blue Runner bases. I'm thinking they might be OK if doctored up properly. Anybody ever try them and if so what do you think?

I thought the jambalaya was decent, and the gumbo was very good.
I served the jambalaya at a party a couple months ago and I told my GF to not tell anyone where it came from because if they found out its blue runner, they might complain. There were no complaints. It's passable, but not as good as the jambalaya I learned to cook from this board.
I cooked the gumbo late one night when I worked a double shift. I just added a bag of frozen peeled shrimp. In 15 minutes it was done. I thought it was pretty damn good to be honest.

I have only tried the gumbo. No doctoring, just added fresh shrimp. To my surprise, I thought it was great.

Blue runner red beans are awesome when you're in a time crunch. Add a little garlic and onions... Oh yea!

I've had the gumbo and creole base. Both were awesome.

The red beans were dam good.Browned some sausage and added a little seasoning and was perfect for some beans on the fly.

Say the gumbo base, how many servings does it make?
Is it pretty much the same for the other bases?
Thanks

i heated up some bisque base after work late one night. i ate the whole thing- and that was straight from the can without anything added. no seafood, spices, nothing. i did dip some leftover french bread in it.
i will get it again

WOW! Thanks for the reviews. I'm going to pick up one of each and just follow the directions....no doctoring.

I always doctor the red beans but tried the gumbo without and found it definitely did not need it. Get some french bread!

I have only used the creole navy beans.... Added tasso and garlic. Pretty good

Can I get an answer on how many servings a can makes?

The red beans were great. Just added some sausage. The jambalaya was pretty good too. Great quick meals.

Looks like the cans are 25 ounces, so you can figure it out from there.

After seeing this thread, I saw the cans of gumbo base and bisque in the store, so I bought one of each to see whether it was really good.
I opened the can of base and to see a big old oil slick on the top of it. I removed as much of that as I could. I tasted the stuff and it wasn't good. To be fair, I heated some of it. If you're going to eat this stuff, you darn sure better love okra in your gumbo because there's a ton of it. It's thick from the okra and I found it to be slimy, as well. There was no real roux flavor. It was sort of a watered down liquid with a lot of okra. Should be called okra gumbo base rather than creole gumbo base. I threw it out. I had low expectations of canned gumbo base, but this was worse than I expected from Blue Runner. I may donate the can of bisque. I'm don't think I even want to taste it.

Skip the gumbo. I don't know about any of the others you mentioned.

I tried the gumbo. You cannot beat this for what it is. Open a can and throw in some shrimp. This is better than some gumbos I've eaten that folks spent hours on.
A lot of what we experience is based on expectations. This far exceeded what I expected so I was very satisfied. Give it a shot.
