I havent eaten at enough of them to give an honest rating but commanders palace would have to be the best....How many restaurants do they have in the N.O. area???

Only been to Dickie Brennans Steak House and Brennans. Dickie Brennans was great/awesome. Brennans was just OK. Don't get me wrong. It wasn't The Sizzler' but it is more about the building and the history with Brennans. I am all about the food/steak. Especially when paying these prices.

Well, based on the one's I've been to, in order of doing what they do very well to coming up well short: (Somehow never been to the true namesake establishment yet)

Commander's
Dickie Brennan
Bacco
Palace Cafe
Redfish
Mr. B's
Bourbon House

The best food I've ever had a Brennan's restaurant was at Bacco, but I've had some so-so food there too. Palace and Redfish I consider pretty good (but one can do much better than pretty good in NO) Mr B's and Bourbon are just too inconsistent in my opinion to bother with.

pretty close IMO

Never ate at Dickie Brennans.

I might put Palace over Bacco though

Palace was surprisingly great last time I ate there. Loved the Pork Shank w/ blueberries.

Bacco - the lobster ravioli is increadable, everything else I have tried is avg at best..

Mr B's was very disapointing last time, I was served cold gumbo and overcooked shrimp.

I will never step foot in Bourbon House again, they can't even get breakfast right.

Oddly enough, the only one I've never been to is Brennan's. Here's how I rate the others:

Commanders
Ralph's
Dickie Brennans
Cafe Adelaide (glass forgot)
Mr. B's
Palace Cafe
Bacco
Bourbon House
Redfish (this place is just bad, imo)

I like your list Glassman.
People don't always remember, but there are three seperate families operating these restaurants. They each do their own thing their way, and one group has had several lawuits with the other.
Mr. B's and Bacco can be very good one night, then the next weekend be less than average.

I went to Brennan's last Friday (finally used a gift certificate I received over a year ago) where my wife and I each had the revillion menu. It was by far the worst dining experience I can ever remember.
The food, service and atmosphere were all terrible.
I had been before (about 10 years ago) and remembered it being good, but this was atrocious. There was not an appetizer on the menu less than $16 or an entree less than $43..and with food that bad, they are seriously ripping people off (I felt ripped off and 2/3 of my bill was covered).
The menu and the atmosphere is what I imagine of an upscale copeland’s/applebee’s. Some wines by the glass were listed on the menu by variety without reference to the vineyard or maker (that is not a lie).
For this place to hold itself out as a New Orleans institution and be considered a "good" restaurant in New Orleans is outrageous.
Brennan’s is tourist trap and they are robbing people in the French Quarter of not only their money but the time they could be spending in other great restaurants.

Yeah, the "main" Brennans is a completely separate branch of the family from all of the other places. They've had some nasty legal battles over this, and it's sort of funny how they're lumped into a "family" of restaurants.

I think the other ones are run by Ralph (Ralph's, Redfish I think, Bacco?), , Dickie (the steakhouse, Palace, and Bourbon House), and Ella (Commanders and Adalaide) -- Mr. B's is another one I belive. They apparently aren't quite as contentious with each other, as they are with the Brennan's branch.

As I have said before the best meal I have ever had was at Brennans and I have not been back since. I know it will not top the last visit and dont want to spoil a meal hoping for the same. Not sure what it was if the stars aligned that night or what but I have not had a dinner top the one I had there some 8 years ago.

36.00 for eggs benedict is outrageous. I have only been twice, both times along time ago when Mike Roussel was still alive. It was good, but their prices have always been completely insane.

One definitely gets the impression that they don't have a problem being relegated almost solely to this. The other places actually seem to make something of an effort to reach out to locals. I almost never hear anyone I know say they eat there.

I would never eat breakfast there. I had dinner way back when the TP was giving them 4 beans ratings. It was excellent on my trip. But that was a long time ago. I have not heard many good things about it. I understand that its owned by Owen Brennan's sons..

Bourbon House is an embarrassment.

Had some customers that INSISTED on going there last month. Just horrible all around, from the hostess to the wait staff to the food. 8 in our party. 5 entrees came out cold. Not warm, not nearing warm...cold. And, this was 40 minutes after we placed our order.

Hate wasting a meal when I'm in New Orleans.

Jazz Kitchen should rate somewhere in the middle of those listings. Also, I'd put Ralphs and Dickies above Commanders.
