Went last night and the food was incredible. Has anyone else tried this place?

We had the seafood stuffed mushrooms for an appetizer and they were fire.

I had the ribeye which came with a stuffed baked potato and green beans. Parents had fried shrimp and oysters, and another seared shrimp appetizer. The service was great as well.

The ribeye was cooked perfectly medium rare.

Can’t recommend this place enough. The atmosphere was on point, and the price was what you’d expect for good food.

All in all we had a great time and will definitely go back.

Where have you been baw ? CJ gets high praise and mentioned often whenever the topic of Laffy food suggestions come up.

If you want to go out a little further, try Not Your Mama's in Livonia on Hwy 190. Outstanding groceries as I make the trek 4-5 times per year for friends b-day dinners.

Nice!! I guess I don’t come to this board enough. I just moved into the Sunset area and was definitely glad to find CJ.

I’ve tried a few places in sw Louisiana but had never been to that one until last night. Thanks for the other recommendations.

I ate there for the first time last month and was disappointed. I was looking so forward to it.

I had a cup of seafood gumbo which was lacking in seafood and flavor. I had the zydeco fried oysters. The oysters were not crispy and were very greasy on the bottom. Ate 2 and left the rest. Had the chargrilled oysters. They were dry. A few had a very little sauce. There was shredded parm on top of them that was hard and unpleasant. I'd heard how good these were, but they were the worst I've ever had. That's not to say they weren't edible, but the ones I've had elsewhere were far superior.

Maybe I ordered wrong. I was pretty shocked that I didn't enjoy the meal. I almost got the stuffed mushrooms, but the pepper jack cheese didn't sound appealing in the dish to me. I'm not a pepper jack lover.

We did see a lot of good looking steaks being delivered. I rarely order steaks in a restaurant unless it's Ruth's Chris or somewhere similar.

I wouldn't make the effort to go again unless someone else requested it. I would have much preferred Poor Boys Riverside Inn.

I thought the pepperjack on the mushrooms was good.

The steak was very good but it cost $46… I always feel like I can come out better grilling a tomahawk ribeye at home for 35 bucks from Walmart but my folks wanted to eat and were paying so I got a steak.

The steaks we saw were the ribeye caps priced at $69. They looked and smelled delicious.

I've recommended the place many times since others have enjoyed it so much. Really broke my heart that I didn't care for it. Later, a trusted friend told me he and his wife felt the same way. First time I'd heard a negative, I believe.

Maybe because I had no expectations of it helped my dining experience.

Been a few times with wildly mixed results, both in service and food. Most of the dishes are really heavy.

Our waiter was on his game last night. We wanted for nothing.

I suppose the only “complaint” we had was it was really noisy. Didn’t bother me as much as it did my mom.

That’s unfortunate, I’ve enjoyed it every time I’ve been. Last trip I had the charbroiled oysters and the ribeye cap (best steak in the Lafayette area, IMO).

Here’s a pic of the oysters that I had

My oysters didn't look like that. Maybe they were overcooked. The cheese was really brown and came off the top in one piece. I didn't bother eating it after a few bites. The cheese covered the tops of every oyster for the most part. Not enough juice to dip bread in it.

I had a few old fashioneds which were very good. They were supposed to be "smoked", but there wasn't any smoke flavor.

I forgot to mention that the service was really good. We had an attentive and knowledgeable waiter even though the place was packed and we had to take a 5:30 pm reservation time.

do you people take pictures of everything you eat or just when something strikes you as good/unique?

I'm not being critical, but I dont think I've ever taken a picture of food in my life.

Personally I took the pics of my food last night to send as a thirst trap to a woman I’ve been giving sex to.

Certainly not an every meal thing.

Not everything, but I like to remember some meals at restaurants and some that I've cooked at home for future reference. I also share some with friends with whom I discuss food, recipes and restaurants. It's fun for me.

Only certain things, and obviously only done in places where it’s not overly obnoxious. I’m not going to take a pic at a fine dining restaurant, for example. And I’ll only take a pic if I’m sending it to someone, I’m not posting it on social media or just keeping it for my own records

There is a fried sweet potato ball with i think a praline sauce that is a great appetizer at cafe josephine. Very tasty.

Last year my wife and I with other couple spent ~$550 one evening. Four bottles of wine and Old Fashion for nite caps. Worth every penny. We go quite often.
