Cleaning Cooking Oil with Cornstarch and Water

A video popped up on my Facebook page showing a guy cleaning dirty cooking oil by adding a mixture of water and cornstarch. He heated the oil to about 345 and poured in the mixture carefully. It started turning into somewhat of a blob which he turned over several times. You could see the blob was getting dirtier and the oil was getting clear. When he removed the blob, the oil was perfectly clear with no bits of anything. I can't find his video, but I found a similar one on YouTube. This guy strained the oil afterward while the other guy didn't need to do so. Have any of you cleaned your oil this way?

Thank you for that astute observation.

'Tis the season for frying turkeys. There have been posts this time of year asking about cleaning and reusing the frying oil. It adds up when frying turkeys, but I reuse and clean what's in my home fryer as well. The Bruce Mitchell method posted below seems easier than even cleaning the fryer.

Bruce Mitchell can do it all======catch and process gators on "Swamp People", head to Florida to the Everglades to catch invasive pythons with groups of locals and clean dirty cooking oil in his spare time.
