Pioneer Woman beef stew recipe calls for a Guinness (I’ve used other dark beers in place but try to keep Guinness on hand just for that recipe)

"Dark" beers are all over the spectrum. You can't just substitute Guinness for Shiner Bock, for instance. There are varying levels of sweetness, dryness, hoppyness, etc. between "dark" beers. Some will work as substitutes, others will completely ruin your food.

This doesn't pertain to guiness, but i always collect all of the unopened iced beer at crawfish boils, set them aside in the shed, and then dump them all in the pot at the next boil.

No idea why. I've been doing it since I was in high school.

Usually have 10-20 odd beers in a 100qt pot.

Why...? You're wasting perfectly good beer, and I'm failing to see how this hodgepodge of beer adds anything good to the flavor profile...

Other beer recipes are welcome also
I found a beer bread recipe at about the same time I bought a 4 pack of some fruit beer from Parish. Hated the beer to drink, but made fantastic bread.

Long time F&D lurker, first time caller!

This is a good, basic recipe for Irish stew. I like making it with lamb and homemade beef stock, personally, and adding in parsnips or turnips too.
Beef & Guinness Stew

As someone else mentioned, it’s great for beer-battered fish and chips. I also like using it for beer-battered fried veggies (mushrooms are my personal favorite, but also green beans, onion rings, etc.)

Another goodie is Guinness chocolate cake… although now I’m thinking my cake needs Guinness caramel on it!

Haha thank you! I’m actually making a huge batch of Irish stew tomorrow for some friends coming over on Saturday night.
