Do y'all devein shrimp?

I don't do it if I'm boiling a few pounds for peeling and eating, but if they are larger than 24# and I'm doing in a dish such as shrimp Creole, I always take the time. I notice most people and a lot of restaurants don't do it. I presume the restaurants frequently buy them already deveined and they cost more that way. Smaller shrimp it is too time consuming and the veins are tiny.
My wife thinks it a waste of time, but I'm pretty quick, so I don't mind. I think the larger shrimp can get gritty if you don't.

It depends on the preparation. I wouldn't do it for boiled or bbq shrimp. I would do it for other preparations if I didn't buy them already deveined. We order quite a bit of deveined shrimp from Biloxi Shrimp for salads or other dishes calling for peeled shrimp. We buy fresh head on shrimp for boiled or bbq.

Depends on how I'm using them. For instance, if I'm butterflying them, then the back is going to be slightly slit open exposing the vein and I'll remove it in that instance.
But for most other dishes, I don't bother with it.

Always. In high school I was lazy and didn't clean the shrimp for a shrimp creole. My mom explained to me in front of everyone at the table, by dissecting each shrimp's colon as she came across it over the course of that meal, that people don't want to eat dirty shrimp.
I'm long out of high school now and I'm still lazy, but I also won't eat constipated shrimp. Calandro's sells pre-cleaned shrimp so I just buy those; it's a win win.

I will for the extra large and jumbos. If I boil one of these sizes I will use a pair of shrimp scissors to devein them while keeping most of the shell intact.

Well, that was basically the message when the food hit the table

Yes. I bought the Toadfish defining tool which works well. It’s the one thing I can catch, because I sure as hell don’t catch any fish.

It’s doesn’t really bother me. I hardly ever do.

Hah, no. We had a complicated relationship but she definitely knew how to make a point.

I only devien if I'm frying big shrimp and that's so they cook more evenly.

I definitely devein shrimp when cooking with them. Only time I don’t is when boiling or barbecuing them. I would not serve a shrimp dish if they weren’t deveined. Wouldn’t eat them in my house.

Same here. Not for boiling or steaming, but for some dishes like BBQ Shrimp I will. Leave shell on, but cut shell with scissors and devein slight butterfly.
