Is it because of habit or because you think they last longer? Or you just like to eat them cold?

My assumption is that they stay fresher/firm longer in the fridge, but maybe that is just habit. Never really thought about it.

My inlaws have blueberry bushes, and they just leave the blueberries out on the counter. They'll freeze them for long term, but as far as fresh, they just leave them out.

My thinking there would be that the berries I get from Albertsons have been off the bush for god knows how long

Now that you bring it up, my grandparents always left their fresh blackberries on the counter too. Never in the fridge.

Combination of all of that I suppose. I refrigerate all fruit except tomatoes, avocados, and bananas.

Take ripe strawberries place a paper towel in plastic container with lid. Place a single layer of berries on the paper towel, then another paper towel on top of them. Place a single layer of strawberries on the second paper layer, then cover them with paper towel and another layer of berries. LId on the container and into the refrigerator. Take them out as needed. They will stay fresh and not rot or get moldy for twice as long done that way. There are reasons why it works that I won't go into here.
