Ouch!
I googled Louisiana watermelons for both areas. Sugartown melons are a thing. Like Hope and Cave City they look to be a good ways apart. I didn't know about Hope melons until I got to looking at the top Arkansas watermelons.

Thats probably just me as I dont seek out watermelons other than Washington Parish, since, you know...usually free from relatives and I live just a parish or two over. Their melons rarely disappoint, though. The fruit stand/grocery store melons I have tasted are definitely not the same. I was in my teens before I had a "foreign" watermelon and was confused as to why so bland and mealy.

Saline has a Watermelon Festival for what it's worth.

How to Pick the Perfect Watermelon

FRANKLINTON, La. (WGNO) -- Just as Plaquemines Parish has its citrus and Ponchatoula has its strawberries, Washington Parish is known for its watermelons. In fact, it's the number one parish in the state for watermelon production with more than 120 growers.
To make sure you have a genuine Washington Parish watermelon, you need to look for the official sticker from the LSU Ag Center and the Washington Parish Watermelon and Vegetable Growers Association.
"What we try to do is promote the little stickers we put on the watermelon and to let everyone know that Washington Parish grows about the best watermelon in the country," says a smiling Henry Harrison, the LSU Ag Center's county agent for Washington Parish.
Two of the growers, Gerald and Melba Burns of Burns Farm just outside of Franklinton, are responsible for providing about 10,000 watermelons this year alone.
Burns Farm raises watermelon on about 10 acres and will harvest about 1,000 per acre this year. Gerald says the weather conditions are perfect for the Washington Parish soil.
"It's the fine, sandy soil. The soil drains extremely well," he tells us.

I never heard of sugartown either. It’s all washington Parish on the east side of the river, I guess.

In north Louisiana, Saline is the best known source of watermelons.
Roadside sellers will have signs noting that they have Saline watermelons, but as with the signs for Ruston peaches, I am often skeptical.
I worked in a watermelon field outside Saline near Lucky one summer. That is hard, dirty work.
Another kid and I camped out there with a shotgun to guard the stacked melons. We scared the shite out of some scumbags who rolled in with their headlights off in the middle of the night. Surprise, motherfrickers!

I don't know where you are in relation to cave city and grand bay Alabama (in fact i don't know where cave city is) but Grand bay produces really good watermelons as well.
Grand bay is right over the Mississippi/alabama state line on I-10.

I had my first Sugartown melon a couple of weeks ago. Bought it from a guy set up on Masonic in Alexandria. Could have been from Texas for all I know but it was the best watermelon I've eaten in years.

I have a good buddy from that Lucky/Castor area that did this work every summer growing up. It’s in the soil apparently. I’m not huge on watermelons but one from there is definitely better melon than you get from The grocery store.

I have been several hours away on trips in Texas and seen signs set up that said Sugartown melons. My boys joke about it know and say everyone is lying

can you tell the difference between a sugar town melon from a WP melon when you thump it?

Pretty sure it's a requirement that if you sell watermelons on the side of the road in Louisiana you have to say they're from Sugartown even if you got them from WalMart.

didn't Farmerville have a festival?

Sugar Town vote here but I’ve never had a WP one.

Yes I have a shirt from it. But they aren’t famous for growing the best watermelons
That would be saline. As popular as Ruston peaches
