Eating Boudin Casing

How many of y’all, when eating boudin, also eat the casing? My wife and mother in law are always telling me that you’re not supposed to eat the casing because it’s artificial and what not, but it’s never hurt me yet.

It’s probably time to stop listening to anything your wife and mother in law tell you to do.
Most casing is pig intestines - it’s not artificial. I’m sure there are people who for some reason use inedible casing, but I don’t see the wisdom behind it.
If you grill it, the casing becomes brittle and easier to separate. But if you steam it, the casing may stay rubbery like latex. That might be why some believe it’s artificial.

Trust me, you'd know if they were synthetic and not real. I get Andouille from Bailey's in Laplace and they use synthetic casings for their sausages and you could chew that crap from now to next Friday and still not be able to digest it.

I don't think I've ever had a synthetic casing boudin. Heck, honestly I've never heard of it being from Texas. Boudin is one of my favorite foods so Lord help me when I chew on something like that

Pretty sure that crap made in Texas, Zummo’s Boudain, uses synthetic.

All the time. Especially the good smoked boudin that I put on the grill to heat up and crisp the casing

What? I have always ate the casing.

And I could be wrong, but it is truly the toughest casing i’ve Tried to eat.

I eat the smoked only. Otherwise I’m biting and pulling.

Yeah zummos is nasty.
I don't eat the casing though if it's steamed. I just force the filling out with my teeth. If I grill it or do it in the oven and crisp it, I'll eat it.

I never knew people didn’t eat the casing until I come across it on this board.

There’s an afternoon sports radio show in Houston I like listening to while driving home. They’re always advertising Zummos as the best “boudain” they’ve had.
My thought is, if they can’t spell or pronounce the stuff correctly, I’m giving that endorsement zero credibility.

No, that's what those idiots call it

I can confirm that Zummos is the most disgusting "boudain" I've ever had. Hideous.

It usually cooks into the boudin and it's all edible. Or have I been eating plastic?
