El Limon Taqueria y Tortilleria in Baton Rouge

Finally got around to checking out this hidden taqueria, and couldn't have been happier with the food. El Limon is a small taco shop and tortilla maker on Jones Creek, a few blocks from Coursey.
Their tacos are only $1.50 each, and are a bit larger than similarly priced ones in town. I ordered one of barbacoa (beef brisket), fajita meat, and carnitas (chunks of roasted pork). The barbacoa was terrific, the grilled steak taco had a great red chile seasoning, and the carnitas were extremely juicy and tasty. All three tacos (on homemade tortillas) were excellent, served up with a side of lime slices, as well as red and green sauces. While I didn't try either, they also offer tacos with lengua and cueritos (pickled pig skin).
They carry traditional taco shop fare including quesadillas and burritos, which run $2.00 - $4.00 depending on the size of either. Tortas (sandwiches) are around $5.00, and stuffed gorditas are only $2.00 each. They offer daily specials ($8.00) including bistec a la Mexicana, pork ribs in red sauce, and chiles rellenos. Their standard entrees include fajitas, enchiladas (in red or green sauce), milanesa (breaded steak/chicken) and mojarra frita (whole fried fish).
Breakfast includes a variety of egg dishes, huevos rancheros, chorizo con huevos, and more. They make their tortillas from scratch, so they supply anyone that wants fresh tortillas to take home.
They don't accept credit cards. If you go, either bring cash, or stop at either of the two banks next door first. The place is pleasantly quaint and tacky; faux brick, wooden roof decorations and gaslight-style lighting. They don't offer chips and salsa, and while they do offer custom fruit drinks, all soda is served by the bottle (no fountain drinks). The tacos were terrific, I'm looking forward to going back, though I generally don't drive that far out.
Their hours are 10AM - 8:15PM Monday through Friday, and 9AM - 8:30PM Saturdays and Sundays.

i swear they raised the prices each time i went in. It went from a great value with very good tacos to average food at an above average price. Guess that comes with expansion often times.

I've driven by the place several times, but never bothered stopping. I assumed that because I never heard it mentioned by anyone else, that it wasn't anything special.
I have to admit that they were the best tacos I've had in Baton Rouge in a long time, but that's just my opinion. If anyone remembers the tacos de barbacoa at Tacos Monterrey on Old Hammond @ Sharp, they're a lot like Victor's.
Good stuff. Had to walk over to Capital One once I realized they didn't take cash, but it was definitely worth it.

The Magazine location should have been enough. It was great in its time. Greed isn't always good.

There are a few places in town where you can get a $1.50 taco, but I like this place because you get more bang for your buck than Mi Pueblito (my other go-to place for tacos).

Barbaco is not beef brisket, it's actually sheep or goat depend on the region you are in. I was in Mexico for a few months 2yrs ago and that stuff is awesome. They only cook it on the weekend because it take so long. I have been looking for an authentic mexican place like since I got back. There use to be a taco stand across the street from out house in Mexico. For 1.25 you could get 3 steak tacos w/ cheese. Best I have ever had.

I'm not sure. I walked past all of the shops in the same little strip mall on my way to the bank, but I only really noticed that one of them was a tailor. They're sandwiched between a tailor shop and a now-defunct kid's clothing place.
There was a restaurant at the other end of the same strip of stores, I didn't look to see what it was.
