Throughout my life I've always just used ranch dressing on my salad, occasionally Italian.
I just recently tried French salad dressing for the first time and it has vaulted into being my favorite. It's fackin delicious.
I've been missing out my whole life (mid 30s)

It's a very diverse dressing, it can be from a pale orange to a bright red.
But it can be very good.

Was it an oil and vinegar type dressing or the creamier one?
I've enjoyed La Martinique dressing over the years. You've reminded me to buy some soon.

Here’s two really good recipes:
Jennings French Dressing (from an Acadiana cookbook from the late 50’s)
2T powdered sugar
1/2 t prepared yellow mustard
1/2t paprika
1/2t Worcestershire sauce
1 clove garlic minced
Dash Tabasco
Pinch salt
3T vinegar
3T catsup
2T mayo
9T oil
Combine in mason jar and shake well.
French Dressing
1 cup granulated sugar
2/3 cup ketchup
1/2 cup light olive oil
1/2 cup white vinegar
1/2 teaspoon celery seed
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon dried mustard
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/8 teaspoon paprika
Salt to taste
In a food processor or blender, add sugar, ketchup, olive oil, white vinegar, celery seed, chili powder, dried mustard, onion powder, paprika, and salt to taste (I like 2 teaspoons). Process until smooth

It's a good dressing. Tastes very much like Pizza Hut's French dressing when they had the salad bars. I've seen lots of recipes for taco salad online that use Catalina for the dressing, but I've never tried it.

That’s what I use it for. White people tacos and taco salad. Definitely recommend everyone try it

Garden & Gun has an article about Biloxi style pizza, which is topped with French dressing.

Was what my parents gave us on salads as kids. I grew up loving salads, but eventually equated French dressing with my kid palate since the mass market version is pretty sweet. I have not had it in years. May need to give a good one a try again.
