My girlfriend claims that a long time ago Taco Bell served fries. I grew up in Lake Charles and don't remember seeing fries. She's from the New Orleans area, so can anyone back this theory up?

Yes they did, with nacho cheese, sour cream, and green onions.

Yeah they did and they were always crispy or they were free. They also came with your choice of "sprinkles" to put on top of them. I remember like a fiesta seasoning was one.

I was pissed when they discontinued them because I won't eat fries if they aren't crispy.

They were called "Border Fries" or something I think.

She might be thinking of a KFC/Taco Bell combination that they have in some cities.

Hell yes they did. Super-good nacho cheese fries with shallots.

They had it in greater New Orleans at least up to the storm. Mrs. RedPop loves them. Border fries with some meat, sour cream, green onions and cheese.

We used to eat some up over on the W'ank, too. That and the chili cheese burritos with the unfortunate name.

Amazing that I have eaten Taco Bell for 35 years and I can't for the life of me remember fries.

Learn something everyday.

Yes they did...early 90's. And for the guy who mentioned the KFC connection, you are right as well. KFC also had the same fries back in the mid-late 80's. They were bigger than the ones that KFC has now. Of course, tb and kfc are owned by the same corporation...I don't know why they got rid of them, but the new kfc fries suck.

N.O. area may have just been a test market for them.

It was actually a very good idea, seasoning packets for fries. Combine the best of potato chips and french fries. I am surprised no one has picked up on the idea again...

I might be crazy, but I remember them being real good! I remember going in a Taco Bell right after they got rid of them with some buds, and being all kinds of pissed off... I do know they had them as far east as Gulfport...

I know this is from the other day, but the way you wrote this makes it sound like you went through a lot of unpleasantness to bring us this information.
