I've been trying to make healthier choices in my life after watching a parent and other family members battle with Alzheimer's. My parents always cooked with Magnolite or cast iron pots growing up. I have pretty much done the same.

I'm looking for maybe a healthier stock pot or dutch oven to cook gumbo, soups, etc. Also, looking for a new set of cookware.

I may be looking too much into this since I have always used aluminum foil to cook with as well. I do have butcher paper that I could start using more. Still kind of researching to see if my change of cooking pots is logic.

Thoughts?

are you implying that cooking with cast iron causes Alzheimer's?

No, I am not implying that. Alzheimers is more related to genes or a head injury.

I was more inquiring about cooking with aluminum and non-stick pans(like Teflon).

I've never heard of Alzheimers being linked to cast iron. Please cite study

I probably should have worded my post differently. I'm not implying that cast iron is related to causing Alzheimers.

I am going to continue to cook with my cast iron.

Just looking to see if cooking with carbon steel or ceramic is a better option over aluminum.

More less just came here for a discussion. I figured I would get some down votes.

Some suspect that aluminum cookware has a link to Alzheimers, but nothing has been proven conclusively.

I primarily use stainless steel and cast iron. I never use the coated non-stick cookware types.

throw all your non stick cookware away

you need only this:
-a large enameled cast iron pot with lid
-one large SS skillet with lid
-one medium SS skillet with lid
-two medium SS saucepans with lids
-one medium cast iron skillet
-two or three aluminum half sheet pans
-two or three porcelain, Pyrex or steel roasting/casserole pans

Plastic in a microwave is probably much worse.

It's not the pot, but what's in the pot. Eat cleaner
