Hello Fresh vs Blue Apron?

Thanking of getting one of these (or another similar service) as Christmas presents for a couple of 20-something family members who want to learn more about cooking. Any feedback on either?

Blue Apron is more flavorful and provides a more realistic chef experience. Takes more time to cook.
Hello Fresh is much easier recipes and takes less time to prepare. Not as flavorful. We add spices and seasonings.

We actually did a trial of all the major ones to see which ones we thought were best. Our rankings:
1. Marley's Spoon
2. Home Chef
3. Hello Fresh
4. Blue Apron
Ingredients in 1 and 2 were fresher, the food tasted way better, and the portions are huge. We got wilted veggies frequently from Hello Fresh. Blue Apron was just "meh".
We now get a box every week from either Marley's Spoon or Home Chef. It's around $60 for 3 meals for the 2 of us. It saves us lots of money and time - we went from grocery shopping every week to maybe 1-2 times a month.

We’ve done Green Chef & Blue Apron. Preferred Blue Apron

About how much $ do you think it saves? I’ve been skeptical of these for a while but they seem like great idea.

I think it would cost us a lot more money than it would save. We got a free meal as a trial, and the portions were small. The food was pretty good, but we're pretty active people who eat big dinners. Not to mention my son is a garbage disposal.

We would spend about $100 a week on groceries. The boxes are perfect for just the 2 of us, as there's no waste. I don't think these meal delivery services are as economical for feeding a family - they can get pricey.

$20 a meal is saving money?
What about the other 4 nights of the week?

I never saved $ apart from the trial weeks where you get 50% off or whatever. It is more about convenience

We eat sandwiches and quick foods like that. Yogurt, beef jerky, nuts, etc. We have 2 sandwich nights per week because frick cooking every night - we don't have time or energy what with running a small business. Then usually we go out for dinner once a week on Friday or Saturday.
But yeah it does save money for us, especially considering that we don't have to buy all the ingredients that already come in the box. We have cut our grocery bill by at least 40-50%

Blue Apron has the most flavorful and ambitious dishes, but they take the longest, make the most amount of effort, and dirty the most dishes.
Hello Fresh is EXTREMELY simple...and kind of boring.
I found Home Chef to be the best balance between the two.

Wife and I have tried them all so far x2 except Sunbasket and Marley's Spoon, Blue Apron was by far our least favorite. Plated, HelloFresh, HomeChef were about equal.

Sun Basket is indeed awesome. I really really liked it. Huge bonus: they give you a booklet with ALL of that week's recipes instead of just the ones you recieved, which is awesome.
However, they focus on healthy meals and salads, as well as quite a few meat-free meals. One salad I got from them might actually be the best single thing I've gotten from any meal service.

That's crazy. Whatever works for y'all though.
We usually have a big run every couple weeks for $150 ish then I'll go around during the week and get meats from different stores depending on what I cook and where I can find it for sale. Produce is cheap as hell and I can find what meat I want on sale. Plus we get frozen shrimp, chicken, and salmon for everyday weeknight meals. I'll do the occasional Costco run for butter, toilet paper, paper towels, etc.
Add $25 a week on fresh meat and that's $100 a week for everything including toiletries and household products. That also includes everything we need for lunch throughout the work week too. $60 for just 3 meals doesn't seem worth it to us.

It isn't
We only do it when we get half off, which is a lot.

Oh, that's good to know. I quit Hello Fresh because I just can't fit 700+ calorie dinners into my weekday routine.

Did Blue Apron. I'm not a big cook especially after a long day at work. It was pricey and we didn't always like the recipes that were sent. Everything we cooked, we enjoyed, but the time to cook and the price were why we stopped using.

Our friends were trying to sell us on Blue Apron. They spend like 60 a week on theirs (family of 4 which is what we are) and that gets them 2 meals. Considering that I spend on average 100 a week for our entire family’s groceries including breakfast, lunch, and dinner for 4-5 nights. No thanks. Of course, they have never been big cooks whereas we cooked pretty seriously for quite a few years so when we looked through the recipes we just kept thinking how simple, easy and cheap we could pull off the same shite.
Oh there’s was Hello Fresh, not Blue Apron. Evidently Hello Fresh is much simpler.
Main advantage it seems to me would be getting us out of the food rut we get into at times where we just cook the same rotation of crap always because it takes no effort.
