Ahuua’s is one of the best Mexican restaurants in Baton Rouge, and most people don’t notice it as they drive by on Jones Creek. It doesn’t stand out at all from the rest of the stores in that little mixed development area.
I drove past it for years and never knew it was there, but the food is amazing and it’s one of my go-to restaurants now. Great blend of Tex-Mex classics and more authentic Latin American food. Everyone I’ve taken there has loved it.

The chargrilled chicken at Little Saigon is a must have any time I visit Baton Rouge.

We both think Gino's and Louisiana Lagniappe are mediocre at best restaurants and highly overrated by the folks in Baton Rouge.
So give us some perspective here. In your opinion, what is your favorite Italian in BR and your favorite seafood in BR?

La lagniappe way overpriced

Diguiulios Brothers by the overpass
Almost everyone who cares about dining in BR knows about DiGiulio’s and Gino’s. Those places stay busy.

Actually agree with you about Gino’s. Don’t think it’s anything special. The veal parmigiana I had there one night tasted so generic like it was from Sysco. Now, I’ll fight you about Lagniappe. Had my boss in town from out of state the other day and took him there, and he said the fish en papillote was the best fish dish he had ever eaten. It may be overpriced but it is NOT overrated.

how did ginos or Louisiana lagniappe get mentioned in a “hidden gems” thread anyway? You can argue they aren’t gems but neither are in any way hidden

Everyone in the city knows about Gino’s. Did you maybe mean Nino’s? Far more under rated

I'm not sure, but I believe it may just be Perkins at Moss Side Lane?
Vasken's baby brother Johnny is the owner/chef, he long has had some of the best fried shrimp in town. He and his wife run the best Serop's location by far.
Try the Kebabs.

IMO, the 2nd best burger in BR.
1.) Mushroom Swiss Burger w/side of fried cheese@ Brewbacher's
2.) BBQ Bacon Cheddar Burger w/debris fries @ Jasmine's
3.) Bacon Cheeseburger w/chili-cheese fries @ Dearman's

To be fair, the OP specified hidden food items. Not places. I took that to mean items you never hear people talk about from anywhere you choose.
