Clearly overpriced - $10 a pound? F that. And if you look through their catalog they have some truly ludicrous things like a $49 cheesecake and an $18 "soup mix" that is basically a 16 oz. box of white beans.

But even if the hams were 1/2 the price, I don't see the big deal. Most of my family loves them though. For me, it's just, like, a pretty good ham. Of course, I'm probably in the minority in that I hate the crusty honey baked part. I cut it off and just eat the actual ham.

this is true. i love honey-baked hams. had a boss years ago that would give me one every year for the holidays. of course, it probably tasted better because i didn't have to buy it.

Absolutely overrated. You can buy a 10 lb spiral cut ham for $30 in the grocery store and bake it yourself. You can make your own glaze and it will taste just as good.

I don't buy or eat them. I like my ham salty not sweet. I don't eat smoked ham either.

Buy a Cooks ham, shank or butt end, when they go on sale at Albertson's about once a month and cook yourself. Little salty, little fatty and makes the best ham sammiches you'll ever eat.

Don't forget the fresh white Bunny bread and Blue Plate mayo.

Not even slightly. I never said I wouldn't eat a honeybaked ham, just that I think they're overrated.

But the idea of eating mayonnaise turns my stomach.

I shouldn't give away this somewhat secret, but I will.

Buy the Honeybaked Ham remnants aka hambone, that most buy to make soups with, as it still has very generous portions of great ham on the bone, some have at least two-plus pounds of sliced honeyham left on them. They are so popular that they used to sell for like $6, but now cost more, yet still very well worth it.

You can get the bone box at Tony's Seafood for I think $2.50 which is a big box of fried catfish bones which have tons of meat on them as well. A friend of mine eats the hell out of them. I just don't like fooling with the bones.

Funny how you can find these little tidbits and get excited about it isn't it?

They are tasty and convenient, but to me they do have a downside. If you use the bone and scraps for soup etc, there is still a lot of sugar involved that I don't want in my dish. If you try to bake an already spiral sliced ham it dries out very, very quickly. The sliced ham opens up and fans out and you have ham jerky before you know it.

Having this debate around my house right now-I like their product, and if was about 1/3 the price, I would be all over one. Has anyone tried one from one of the local grocery stores (Mathernes, Calandros, Calvins)? Thinking about trying one of theirs since I am feeding two teenage bottomless pits and a whole gaggle of in-laws. Can't afford to feed them $10/pound (with bone!) grub.

I am from Virginia. Great hams only come from Surry County. Slice it razor thin and throw in on a sweet potato roll.

I totally agree. They are sold out of these about half the times I go. If you boil that thing down for about 3-4 hours, it makes an outstanding stock for any type of beans.

personally I don't go for the ham, but I love the sliced turkey breast. As for price, I get an email every month for pretty big discounts. Not as much around thanskgiving, 15% email today.

Saved me a lot of time on thanksgiving morning, but I am not big gathering thanksgivig person.
