Turns out we have a crawfish farm just outside of Columbia here in South Carolina, so looking to do a boil for me and my wife and another couple.

Just trying to get an idea of how much to get per person on average.

In South Carolina? Probably 3lbs per person would be plenty. That's me taking into account that you'll have corn, potatoes, mushrooms, maybe some sausage.

We figure 5lbs a person down here.

7-10lbs - big boys/coonasses
5-7lbs - normal men/coonass ladies
2-3lbs - ladies/big kids/skinny guys
0-1lbs - toddlers/dainty girls/femboys (aka you'll have to peel them)

If it's just you, your wife, and 2 other people, I would get a half sack (15-18 lbs) if you can. If you can only get full sacks, just peel, vacuum seal, and freeze. Save the yellow "fat" too.

For Louisiana baws/people who regularly eat crawfish:
3lbs for women/kids
5lbs per male

For first timers/casual folks,
3lbs for guys
2lbs for girls

Load up extra on corn potatoes sausage mushrooms as it will fill them up cheaper and they usually eat more of those because they get tired of peeling

I'm assuming you are doing the boiling and they only sell by the sack. So one sack.

7lbs per adult in South Louisiana, that includes women too. For those that only eat 4-5lbs, there will always be several people who take a break and drink a beer then come back for round 2 later lol. Also leaves a few to peel for a kickass etoufee or "after the boil" soup.

Is there anyone in the BR area selling half sacks?

I do a boil every year in Tennessee, this is what I have learned.

5 lbs for someone that lived in Louisiana that is ready to eat some crawfish

1-3 lbs for someone that has not lived in Louisiana that claims to like them, I usually go toward the 1 pound side

Less than a pound for everyone else, they will usually eat more sides than anything. Sausage will tend to be a big hit with them

Add some pounds for yourself for leftovers to make shite with like Crawfish Bisque and such

Most people go with 3 for women and kids and 5 for guys. And adjust up if you have some heavy hitters in the bunch or you go light on the fixings.

Definitely sausage not red hots . I love them but it is fire in the hole the next morning . For the soak we like cauliflower and small turnip bottoms . We boil every Sunday so we have tried everything .

My wife and I split 12 pounds at a crawfish joint on Friday night.

Could have had more if we wanted. People make the rookie mistake of eating corn and potatoes with them. That shite is just unnecessary filler.

I'd boil a sack and peel the rest. I boiled a 30lb sack Sunday, me the wife and 2 adult sized kids ate till we were miserable and peeled about 8-10lbs of leftover for a stew.
