out of 60 pounds what would be average? I really went through the sacks, and got 6 pounds dead, they were cheap($1.75 pp),but still big. Almost not worth complaining about, and driving back for 10 bucks. Ill probably call and see what they can do, maybe they can hook me up on some shrimp.

Did you clean then with salt? You might have killed them yourself.

no, of course not. this is straight from the bag. I did create an aquarium for them to live in until tomorrow.

Did you put in a treasure cave? Crawfish like that.

I never count more than 5 dead per sack. As in 5 crawfish.
Anything more and I question it.
Did 5 sacks a few weeks ago. 3 dead crawfish in 165 or so pounds

Just a side note . You can tell a real coonass by when eating crawfish and someone says "don't eat the dead ones" and you know what they mean!

So 1/10th were dead, that's not what you purchased. You purchased live crawfish. I'd go back.
Sidenote. My dad bought some crawfish from Seago in Houma. Had about 7-8 pounds of dead ones in 1 sack. He put them in the sack and brought them back to them. The dude argued and said that there's no way he bought them there and that's not his crawfish back and forth. My dad said all I want is these dead ones to replaced with live ones. Dude still didn't budge. My dad emptied the sack of dead ones in the lobby and walked all over them. Owner told my dad, you're banned from here, get out my store. My dad said I banned myself from here when you sold me dead crawfish, you didn't accomplish anything. Never went back.

No more than a handful. 10lbs and I'd go back and complain. You essentially paid $2.10 for 50 lbs. Any place worth a shite should rectify the situation. And if they don't, lesson learned.

I called up there, and he agreed to make it right. He definitely seemed concerned that he was selling dead crawfish to other people.

Why would I lie?
We routinely get sacks with no dead crawfish in them

Nah,they've been underwater for 18 hours now, they're loving it. There just dancing around, getting all that dirt off, cleaning out their hind gut.
When I said aquarium, I meant that it's oxygenated. When crawfish die in the water, it's because there is no oxygen in there. They have gills, they can live 100% of their lives underwater.

Same here and most of the time it's because they got smashed.

I had a lady return with 10 dead crawfish from two sacks and wanted a refund for it. I offered her a handful of pennies from the register

Early on in the season (Dec-feb/March) you should expect more dead in your live crawfish. Crawfish are softer shelled and tend to die easier. I would say with pond raised you can expect 1-2lbs average in these months. From my experiences, pond raised tend to die easier than wild.
Later in the season the pond and live start to get tougher and don't die as easy. I know with the wild crawfish, I would buy live and would not get any dead after 2-3 days of storing them. After 5+ days I would only get 2-3lbs at the most when picking through them to boil. Sometimes less than that.
I've also had issues with crawfish caught in low oxygen water that caused them to die really quickly and had like half a sack dead.
If you are buying them mid April on and you have 2-3lbs or more of dead in a sack I would say they are several days old in my opinion. Probably because they didn't sell quicker.
