I have to give my review of Tchefuncte's in Madisonville.

So me and the wife ate dinner at Tchefuncte's tonight. I normally do not feel compelled to give a review of a restaurant, but this time I feel I need to give a review and hopefully this info will reach Tchefuncte management/ownership. Why? I've been there probably 6 times and the quality of the food has incrementally gone down on every visit and I don't want to see this restaurant go out of business.
AND THE FIXES ARE SIMPLE.
When we were seated they seated us at these tables:
It was very irritating to sit at these tables because you are directly next to other tables and you cannot have a private conversation. Very irritating.
Fix: get rid of that seating.
First we ordered appetizers. My wife got the soft shell crab special app. No complaints. Very well done. I got the BBQ shrimp app. It was good except for one shrimp that was "off". I don't know if there is anything that can be done about that...it happens in the best restaurants.
Then we moved on to soups. My wife ordered the Lobster Bisque. She was satisfied. I ordered the turtle soup. It was terrible. Couldn't finish it. Not enough salt. Not enough spice and the "turtle" I'm almost certain was ground beef. If you are going to fake it at least make the protein shredded. Also the egg already comes in the soup and not to order. The turtle soup sucks.
To fix add a little more salt, little more red pepper flakes, make the roux darker, add a pinch of clove (just enough to have a background flavor), do not cook with the egg and make sure the protein is shredded.
For entree's I ordered the scallops over potatoes. The scallops were good. The potatoes were undercooked.
Fix: fully cook the potatoes.
My wife ordered a 8 oz. filet. The steak came properly cooked however the steak was not properly salted. It was a nice filet with no salt. The steak was served with an au jus that also had very little salt.
Fix: salt steak generously before cooking and baste in butter/herbs before serving (tried and true method that always leads to a nice touch on a steak before it is served).
The service was very good. No complaints there.
After the food, drink and tip our bill came to $350 (no pun intended).
The quality of food did not meet the price.
Tonight Tchefuncte's was half full. We wanted to go to Gallagher's tonight but could not get a table. Gallagher's usually runs about $200-250 depending on how much we drink.
Tchefuncte's has an excellent location but they better step up their game. There is NO reason they shouldn't be packed on Friday and Saturday nights.

What did the manager say when you told him all this?

I didn't tell him anything. That's why I'm venting here.

Old man likes salt, noted.

I hate that seating also but that's the price people pay for going out as a 2 top. It does suck
Is the salt thing common now? Just curious because I've noticed some people's taste for salt has gone away after having covid

baw, you need to go to management, don't vent on the internet. They will try and fix issues.

I thought I got my taste back after covid. Maybe I didn't.
But other restaurants seem to be salted about right.

Not everyone likes to eat salt with a side of the entrée. Put more salt on your shite if that's how you like it

Tchefuncte’s is not the type of restaurant where they keep salt and pepper at the table. It is expected that the chef will get it right.

The chef probably didn't want his food to taste like salt
Do like Hillary bringing her own tabasco

Y’all are encouraging this dude to literally be a Karen. Lol.

I suggest you eat there yourself and report back then we can compare notes.
Look, I just want the place to succeed. It should be full on a Friday night. But it is not. Every Gallagher restaurant was full, Keith Young’s was booked, Del Porto was booked, etc. There is a reason Tchefuncte’s had availability.

Thanks for the review. This is a food board after all, not sure why so many people get mad when someone tells about their experience.

Not an "excellent" location and $350 for a couple is outrageous. I've been once, when it was much better and have never been back. They prices do not live up to what you get, the place is not convenient to get to and there alternatives more convenient for northshore habitants to eat at for a max of $250 per couple. Do yourself a favor and never go back.

I'm all good with someone listing their complaints, but it was obvious the OP is the type who wants to complain about the bad meal afterwards and not have a discission to where the place could improve.
Always worth giving managememt well reasoned feedback if you had a bad experience. Extremely easy to do without being a Karen. Bitching about sitting too close and telling them how to cook their steaks is being a Karen.

Not so much salt, or just stay home and cook yourselves. Why pay all that money for a little piece of meat you might not like.

A review is a review…nobody gives a shite if you trust it

Why log a passive aggressive complaint on tigerdroppings.com then? It would’ve taken two seconds to move your table and bring you out a salt shaker.
