I really like The Overpass Merchant, but...

Their menu is so limited that it's almost comical. Their burger is fantastic, as are their snacks (those cheese curds), but the rest of the menu is very lacking.
I hope they step it up a little and add daily specials and maybe 7-10 new items. City Pork on Jefferson has figured this out with specials and a rotating menu.

I've eaten there for two brunches, a lunch, and two dinners.
The lunch and dinner menus are basically identical. They have some new wings on the menu and the discription is "don't ask, just order them." I hate stuff like that and of course they don't come with anything. Just the wings and this is a dinner entree, not an appetizer.
Brunch has been good. Way to go seems to be the biscuit sandwiches because they basically offer nothing else. Got the shrimp and grits last time and it was tasty, but was about 5 bites of food.
And the acoustics. Good lord it's one of the loudest restaurants I've been to. Just nitpicking but seriously hope they expand or rotate their menu.

I've started to treat it as an appetizer + drink place.
I'm a huge fan of the chicken pasta though.

The wings were an app when I went a couple of weeks ago. I agree the menu is very limited. I understand it's a small kitchen, but if they are only going to have 5 entrees they should at least have a couple of specials every night.
It's a good concept and executed fairly well, but they are going to need to grow a bit to keep the BR crowd coming back.

I'd rather them do a few things very well than a lot of different things just ok (see Brewbachers).
Nashville Hot Chicken is awesome
Biscuits are good
Burgers are great
Brussel sprouts are outstanding
What more do you really need?

Not asking for a menu with 50 items, but would like more variety on the days I'm not craving hot chicken or a burger with a side of sprouts.
They've established themselves as a good restaurant. They have a loyal clientele. Time to reward them by taking the next step forward.

I like the merchant a lot but it is almost unbearably loud inside. They have to put up more aucustix dampening or something. The drinking crews don't seem to mind but when I go in there for a burger with the wife, it feels everyone in there is shouting in a bathroom.

As long as the Hot Lonnie is still on the menu, I'm good

Well one of those is only on the breakfast menu, one only on the dinner menu, one is a side dish, and the last is a burger.
I'm a big fan of Merchant, but OP is right. It almost feels like a joke it's so small. At lunch today, the menu contained 4 versions of a chicken sandwich, 3 salads, a burger, and a grilled cheese.

Well after 3 visits with someone, you've gone through the whole menu.
I like the place but they better start changing up the menu. I've said no to the place more than once because of the limited menu

Hit the nail on the head with this. The last time I went it took me forever to order because nothing stood out. Almost went with a burger at 10:00 AM.

Just look at it as a beer bar with a few good food options

But it's not a beer bar. Especially at lunchtime. It's hardly a bar at all unless you go post dinner.
I'm not saying they need to serve steaks and fish dishes. But there's no reason for 4 out of 9 entrees to be a chicken sandwich.

I don't live in BR and I've only been to Merchant twice, but I feel like if I lived in BR I would go to Merchant for the draft/bottle list, and maybe grab a bite to eat if I was hungry while there. Kinda like a happy hour place. On their website it states 21+ after 5pm, which IMO means they are going for a bar with food options.

I'd rather a place stick to what they do really good than try to grow the menu and start putting out bad food.

I don't disagree with you, but that isn't what 90% of their patrons use it as. They open at 11AM and market themselves as a restaurant that happens to have the odd special beer on tap.
Regardless, you can serve bar food without 4 of the 9 items on the menu being the same item with a different condiment. If you don't want a chicken sandwich, a burger, or a salad, you can't eat anything there during lunch.

I guess I just don't see the issue. If I don't want a burger, I don't go to Company Burger. I don't get mad that Company Burger only offers burgers, I just don't go there if I'm not in the mood for that type of food.
I'd much rather a place offer a limited menu of good food, than expand their menu to items that they aren't comfortable with.
