Is grocery store tuna safe to eat mostly raw?

I’ve always cooked tuna “medium” at home but eat it just seared in restaurants. Is tuna (previously frozen) from a place like Winn Dixie safe to eat just seared on exposed surfaces and raw in the middle or am I going to die?

I have seared plenty of store bought tuna, and I'm still alive to tell my story.

I think if you just squeeze some lemon juice on it you could eat it fully raw, at least I would.

I eat Gulf tuna from Rouse's rare and never had an issue.

My first thought was that I think they cook it before they put it in the can. Carry on.

Yes. All ocean fish are safe to eat raw assuming it has been properly handled. If the fish smells "fishy" I wouldn't buy it even if I was cooking it fully.

Previously frozen actually helps for safety.

I have used raw fish from rouses in sushi. If you sear it you’ll be fine.
I recommend the Tuna labeled something like “wild caught previously frozen” as the wild usually has a better taste and previously frozen means it was probably flash froze right after they caught it.
I would be careful with the “fresh never frozen” as I have bought some days before it’s expiration date, and after opening it, it was obvious the fish was bad (kind of mushy and smelled really bad). I feel like there’s a higher chance of this In the “fresh never frozen” fish.

Also, wild fresh never frozen fish hasn't been handled in a way that will kill parasites, so you should be judicious in how you use it and inspect it well if you're going to eat it rare/raw.

Like a steak, it should be safe. But that is no guarantee. You never know how the store or the distributor handled the product.
