Man, that stuff is terrible for you. We ditched all of our "non-stick" coated stuff. Especially when it starts to flake off. It ends up in your food.

Depends on how much you use them but probably not.
That's why I buy the best combo of quality and price that I can find (like Tramontina) and toss them after a year or two.

I have had pretty good luck with the Misen non-stick pan.
They have one on sale right now.

You serious clark?
The nonstick calphalon pans i had lasted well over 10 years, and i used the hell out of them. I never used metal utensils in them, and i never put them in the dishwasher. I rarely even washed them with soap as i could just clean them with water and a paper towel if you do the cleaning right after cooking.
Don't buy cheap pans if you want them to last long.

Just step up to the newer hybrid pans. I've got some Hexclad pans and they are awesome.

only if you misuse it. when used properly there is nothing harmful about it.
To the OP: your nonstick can last a very long time when properly cared for. The keys to this are:
- never do high heat
- always heat the pan with something in it (put oil in a cold pan). The heat needs to transmit to something in order to prevent the nonstick coating from burning off the toxins
- NEVER use cooking sprays... only natural oils. Sprays have chemicals in them that stick to and ruin nonstick pans. My previous pans always had a residue on them that I never could clean off, and research revealed it's from sprays. I've been using a MadeIn pan for over a year now, and it's as good as when it was brand new.

overheating the pan ruins it and makes the coating separate from the pan and start lifting.
dont overheat the pan with high heat and they last forever as long as no one takes a metal pot scratcher to it

Its not cheap but I have had this all-clad for over 4 years and it looks like I bought yesterday.
I've had an allclad nonstick pan for probably close to 15 years now and it's still going strong.

Ive heard Hex Clad is a scam from multiple reviewers and chefs that have used them

I have All Clad copper core pots and pans but also have a Hexclad skillet. Have had it about 5 years. Don’t know how it would be considered a scam. Works great and is easy to clean. Will it sear a crust like stainless? No, but neither will a traditional non-stick unless you are talking about cast iron.
Still looks new.

Just buy a $12 skillet at Sam's each year. Recycle the old one.

My Calphalon Unison Slide have lasted about 20 years. They are beginning to scratch but I do not think they make the one I have anymore. It may be discontinued.

I’ve had a cheap one from target for about 6 or 7 years now. No flaking or scratches in sight.
I really don’t know what y’all are doing to your pans. The only thing I can think that is destroying them would be either the dishwasher or too high of heat. I’ve never put mine in a dishwasher.

If you must have non-stick, toss them out after a year. Costco, Sam's, and Amazon all sell decent non-stick pans that are relatively inexpensive. Only use silicone brushes when cooking to prevent any scratches or gouges.
Personally, I switched to all stainless (Heritage Steel and Made In). A little harder to clean, but once the skillet, pot, or pan is heated, it cooks so much more evenly, retains heat, and becomes more non-stick. Plus you can use anything on it and won't have to worry about any chemicals being released into your food, and then digested by you.
Stainless costs more, but they should last you a lifetime.

They're not made to last a long time. Buy cheap and get a new set every 1-2 years
Spend the real money on carbon and stainless steel

Go look at Sams and Costco. Both have higher quality (thicker) aluminum skillets with Teflon coating at prices that are decent. We have one we have used for three years, and it is not scratched. We use a wooden spoon and a Teflon spatula in it and nothing else. We are careful to not burn it. We do use it in the oven at 350. Higher that that we go to cast iron.
