Every Thanksgiving I cook a turkey. Every Thanksgiving I say, "Dang, that was good, cheap, and easy. I'm going to cook a turkey more often."

And every year I don't cook another turkey until Thanksgiving.

So maybe I don't like it as much as I think I do? Just the nostalgia of the day?

We have a big crowd this year and someone else is doing the turkey. I'm smoking a 20 lb. brisket to go with it.

I know I truly like brisket.

So is turkey jive?

I am going to go with yes. I am not a big turkey fan. People tell me my turkey is fantastic but I just don't see it.

I say the same thing and never cook a whole one the rest of the year. I have done boneless breast a little more often even though I like the dark meat better. It's just easy and my folks like white meat more.

Best turkey dish I've ever had or cooked I learned about on this site - Creole Stuffed turkey wings. It's pretty involved so I've only done it a couple of times. Really outstanding dish.

There’s a reason we only eat turkey once a year.

Only a small percentage of turkey dishes are actually good enough to be worth the trouble. Turkeys have a tendency to be bland and dry without a lot of effort to instill flavor into it, cook it evenly, and prevent it from drying out.

Pretty much anything that’s good with turkey is as-good with chicken while chickens are infinitely easier to prepare and cook evenly without drying out.
