And they’re superior to the “normal” ones all dried out and flavorless.

Friend,

I wish I shared your opinion on Meche’s, but it is not a good donut king cake. Tastee of Kenner and Mr. Ronnie’s of Houma make great donut king cakes. Joe’s in Metairie and District Donuts on Magazine make a good one. Tastees outside Kenner make passable ones. Meches, though, was the worst donut king cake I’ve ever had.

Friend,

Since when did Oak Point begin making a donut king cake? At our next Bible study, I will bring the Il Supremo plain if you bring an Oak Point donut king cake.

I love my adopted hometown Lafayette people, but I'll never understand these people's fascination with Meche's so-called king cakes.

... in order to clarify

The King Cake I made yesterday for the beginning of Mardi Gras, was not a doughnut king cake. I did not use doughnut type dough. The only thing similar would be the shape.

Instead I used a Brioche dough, which made the taste and texture more of a croissant type king cake. The crumb was awesome and so is the taste. Worlds away from the doughnut king cake.

They’re both inferior to a traditional French style king cake, and I’m willing to meet anyone who disagrees at Sonic.

since everyone decided to make this thread about them (go figure when TLSU showed up), so I'll be the first to tell you that your king cake looks delicious.

Same. Kellers, Twins, Great Harvest, and Pouparts are all far superior. Even with doughnut style Village Deaux and Mikos are better. Lafayette people love their Meches though

Seconded OP, also a great flavor combo with the blueberry and cream cheese.
