I have reservations for tomorrow evening for my wife and I and family coming in from out of town. The dress code is listed as "casual." From my experience, that can mean anything these days. Traditionally, it meant slacks and sport coat. I know that's not what it means now. But will a pair of blue jeans or khakis and a button down work for Luke?

Thank you in advance.

Full tuxedo is the only way to go.

You could go to Luke in shorts and flip flops.

Aside from Commander’s and Galatoire’s where else do you need a coat? Maybe August?

Those are the only places you need one. If you're eating at any of the older line French Quarter places (Antoines, Arnaud's, Brennans, RibRoom) and don't want to look like a fricking hayseed, wear a jacket. Places like August and Revolution, as well. Probably expand the list if dining at night.

For real, it’s pretty casual/trendy. Nice fitting jeans and a button down shirt is appropriate.

This all day. Thanks for this. Part of the experience of eating at NOLA's best restaurants for me is "putting on my best" to experience a quality meal with quality beverage and service with quality company. I think locals get this but tourist come down and don't pack appropriate clothes, say wtf I'm going anyway, and kind of drag the experience down a bit.

I remember going into Arnaud's when I was younger and seeing men in ill-fitting sport coats that didn't match their attire, and my dad would lean over and derisively say, "he didn't bring a coat and they had to loan him one."

That's why I always ask if I don't know, especially in New Orleans-and I would not set foot in Arnaud's, Antoine's, Gallatoire's or Commander's Palace without one today.
