Lunch in Montgomery - Updated bottom of page 1

This may be a long shot and too specific, but I’ll ask and see. Heading to Atlanta and planning on stopping around Montgomery for lunch.
Any local spot or even a chain that’s not available in LA?
Any type of casual lunch food - Barbecue, sandwich, grill, etc.
Preferably not too far from the interstate.

Stop in Auburn and go to Acre instead

Milo’s looks like a great option. Thanks. I’ll take all the ideas anyone has, so keep ‘em coming if you know.

Filet & Vine is the best lunch in town. We always stop there on our way home from the beach. It’s a bit of an upscale meat and 3 place, that happens to also sell tons and tons of wine and craft beer, and has a killer butcher case, including prime cuts of ribeye, NY strip and filet.

This is a good plan too, although it is easily 10+ minutes off I-85. I love the Redfish on the Half Shell, but everything is great.

Filet and vine is a great choice for a quick, great mean
The other suggestions were great as well, but I’ll throw out SweetCreek Farm Market in Pike Road (it’s basically montgomery and on the way to Atlanta).
Good bbq, Cuban sandwich, etc. you can also pick up some homemade candies and snacks or feed some chickens.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I’m gonna look at each. Never heard of “meat and three”, so that’s new and I love learning rid bits like that. I guess it’s Alabama’s version of plate lunches.

Yep, “Meat and 3” = “Plate lunch”.

Uncle Micks in Prattville is a decent option.

If it's anything like the Milo's in BHM, it's not that great. I love their lemonade and that's it.
Go for Greg's Breakfast Bar or Tipping Point.

There's a Pannie George's on the east side of Montgomery too. I've eaten in the one in Auburn many times, great fried chicken and other items. Good food. Nice folks.

UPDATE: I stopped for lunch coming home from Atlanta and went to Martin’s in Montgomery and it was absolutely perfect. A perfect “Alabama local country” style meat and 3. Couldn’t have asked for anything better.
I got the chopped beef, mashed potatoes, mac n cheese, and yams. I chose what I wanted to taste, not a balanced meal. They brought corn muffins and rolls for the table.
Wanted to try the butterscotch pie because, “when in Rome…”. To my disappointment, they were out so I got the chocolate pie just to taste. Couldn’t eat more than a couple of bites as I was full.
The food was normal “plate lunch” quality. It fell in that category that’s stuck between good home cooking and mass prepared lunch food. Not amazing, but a good lunch-time plate lunch. No complaints whatsoever. Exactly what I wanted.
Kind of interesting though as you sit down and order with a waitress and then pay at the register. Most plate lunches I’m accustomed to are in a styrofoam box handed to you at the register. It was very nice. A totally local feel and more of a small town feel.
Diners included many older folk, customers who the waitresses knew by name, a small town lawyer at the table next to me talking about cases straight out of a John Grisham novel, and at least one Richard Jewel looking Bama fan with his Bama straw hat, khaki shorts, plain white new balance shoes with socks pulled half way up his shins. And to round off the culture, one tatted up, hair slicked back, gold chain flossin, AK-47 decal shirt with multicolor camouflaged parachute looking pants dude. It was perfect! Loved it!
A couple of minutes off the interstate. Went in right around noon and it was crowded, but no wait. In and out in under 40 minutes.
To everyone who made suggestions, thank you. I looked into every place you mentioned. I truly appreciate it.
And to the Alabama meat and 3 and to Martin’s, I tip my hat. It was a great Alabama experience.

Thank you for leaving a detailed and fun review.
Yeah I'm biased a bit on this post as I have been to Martin's several times in the past few years -- it's exactly as you described, btw -- but I also wish more F&D recommendation-requesters would follow up with a review.
