Everybody keeps telling me to get a bottle of Macallan 12...what says the Food board?

I am trying to transition over from Pappy 20, blantons, jack single barrel into scotch and need a good single malt suggestion.

Glenfiddich is feasable, but The Balvenie is preferred.

how much are we talking here? I was hoping to keep it in the 50-60 range.

ETA: I can justify $130 for my Pappy van Winkle bc I know I like it...I have had good and bad scotch though...I am really trying to acquire a taste for it though.

Glenlivet or Glenmorangie are two good smooth single malts to sip.

When I switched from bourbon to scotch I found that Talisker and Highland Park were good transition scotches. Now I drink 15 yr old Laphroig, which I initially thought tasted like feet.

Highland Park 15 or 18 are very good.

This is a really nice transition. Trust me. Not too pricey. Not too smokey.

In my whiskey soaked opinion, you can't go wrong with Macallan, the distillers of which have earned a well-deserved reputation for commitment to quality, and it shows in their whisky. For instance, the makers of Macallan go to great lengths, and expense, to use Golden Promise, a barley that produces so low a yield that most farmers won't grow it, but results in richer-flavored whisky. They also use only old sherry casks to age their whisky. Again, these are expensive but give Macallan its unmistakable creamy, slightly sweet sherried character. I personally consider the Macallan 12 Year Old the world's best whisky bang for the buck, and I feel that you'll be doing yourself a disservice if you don't give Macallan a try.

No-brainer. Macallan 12 year is the best single malt scotch for the price. I have it at home for an after work drink and I order it at restaurants after dinner.
