Pats is probably your best bet. Rp and old rail are about 3-4 blocks off lakeshore. Rp is zero atmosphere and old rail is empty generally. Pats for food and after drinks at barley oak

Suggestions so far are your best options. DO NOT go to Rip's, never had a good meal there, ever.

Pat's Rest Awhile is the biggest, newest and nicest atmosphere on Lakeshore drive.
It is a little disjointed with several different dining areas. The top deck is first come first serve, has a full menu, and they have a umbrella type cover for shade. They also have a raw bar area with high top tables for drinks and oysters. Then there is a 21 and over inside bar with drinks and appetizers and a few tables. Finally the main dining room is indoors and usually requires a reservation. Maybe not in the afternoon.
Pats is a good place to see the lake, people watch etc. The menu is nothing special honestly. Pretty pricey for typical Louisiana fare. But the property is beautiful and always buzzing.
Barley Oak is walkable from there, always nice to sit up on the patio and people watch.

Go sit at the outside oyster bar at Pats. Full menu and sit on the left side so you can enjoy the banter from the guys shucking and char grilling. It’s always a good time.

love McClains. When the pizza is on point it is some of the best around.

Barley Oak food >>> Pats. I really wanted to like Pats, but the food just wasn't very good when we went. In fairness it could've been an off day, which has become quite common in the restaurant world post covid due to staff shortages and difficulty finding quality workers.
The setup there though it top notch. The huge outdoor seating space overlooking the lake is awesome.

No.
But to add on what everyone else is saying, Nuvolari's is a couple blocks off the lakefront and has always been a good spot. Within walking distance is Grapeful Ape, a smaller more intimate bar.

Pats Rest a While is the best thing going on the lakefront
