Katie's is the correct answer.

If I must choose, it is Liuzza's.

Mandina's is absolutely terrible.

I've been to Mandina's many many many many times. It is not my cup of tea, I'll leave it at that.

That's a lot different from saying it's terrible. I've never had anything there that was even close to terrible and I've eaten there many times, as well. All of my food has been quite good. I can understand that it's not your cup of tea or not the type of food you're interested in. That makes sense.

I was trying to be nice.

I think the food at Mandina's is really bad. Unless you're 80.

Its just really old school, heavy, crap. The turtle soup is decent, but other than that, no thanks.

And they charge a pretty premium price (imo) for really simple, uninspired food.

Its almost all shite I can make at home. Does nothing for me at all.

I understand people like that sort of thing and that is fine. I just find it to be terrible.

And again, this is coming from someone who has been there a lot.

Personal opinion.

I'll never understand why something old is always bad. Especially, when we have this huge movement to go back to basics and traditional ways of cooking.

don't agree with any of that.

really simple
again, what's the problem with simple?

you make shite you don't like at home?

totally valid but I'd hate it if you told other people not to go because of these reasons.

I would absolutely tell people not to go.

I think the place is straight up bad. I really, firmly believe that.

I'm pretty sure that's a personal opinion.

Last time I was there, not only was the food extremely mediocre, but my server was an absolute a-hole. My 65 year old mother cannot have pepper AT ALL. She told him this. She said look, I have a condition, please make sure they know. Dish comes back completely covered in pepper. She tells him "hey I can't eat this, please take it back". He says "Well you must be a joy to eat out with." Couldn't believe it.

I didn't know Mandina's being shitty was such a hot button issue for the old farts in here.

Now, the real story. Yeah, sounds like a bad experience. That sucks.

not a hot button at all. you were spouting shite, up until you mentioned the experience with your mother. IMO, that sounds like more of a server issue, more than a complete bashing of all the dishes on the menu.
also IMO, that sounds like a very typical "attitude" response from many servers in nola.

Its not a real story. I've never liked Mandina's, and I've been there probably 12-13 times in my life for various reasons.

I've always thought it sucked.

That one really pissed me off though.

It doesn't have that much to do with that. That was just icing on the cake.

I have always thought the food at Mandina's was extremely mediocre. I stand by that.

It is not a good restaurant. IMO.

I'd much rather Katie's in that area.
