Per Ian McNulty

quote:

New Orleans is famous around the world for food. Soon, the city’s restaurant scene will be getting new attention from a global brand that is a byword for culinary excellence.

The Michelin Guide today announced that it will begin assessing and ranking restaurants in New Orleans and around Louisiana for the first time.

Rankings, including potentially its coveted Michelin Stars, are set to be doled out later this year. Michelin’s reviewers, called inspectors, are already at work visiting restaurant for potential inclusion.

quote:

Louisiana isn’t alone. It will be part of a regional guide called the Michelin Guide American South that takes in five more states: Alabama, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. This reflects a new approach from Michelin, which has previously turned its attention to individual cities or states as its guides expand in the U.S. The new guide, which will be online, will also include restaurant's in Michelin's Atlanta Guide, which was started in 2023.

You gotta pay to play as always

quote:

New Orleans & Co., the city’s tourism sales and market agency, and the Louisiana Office of Tourism are two of the groups across the region that partnered with Michelin on the new guide, providing financial support for its entry in the market, a practice that’s become standard as Michelin has expanded in the U.S. The groups did not release financial terms of the partnership.

We’ve talked about this on this board a bunch, it wasn’t a secret that Michelin was all over the city the past two years scouting.

Interesting that they are lumping most of the South together I guess.

Star Speculation.

The only lock I see is Emeril's. They will get a Star. Possibly two (but I don't think so)

After that it is pretty hard to say.

Saint Germain is food worthy but not sure they can rise to the formal service that Michelin prefers.

Dakar is in that category as well.

Revolution might get there but not sure on that one. August should but for political reasons, hard to say.

Not sure Commander's reaches the level for Food but does for service. I think they are more like a legacy type place

Bib Gourmand will definitely go to places like Turkey and the Wolf

Dakar service should exclude them, but the story will likely get them a star.

Mosquito Supperclub at Dakar are what and what so we will see.

Adding to you list I could see August getting a star.

Bib could be all over the place, as it should.

Not really, it's too hard to get a reservation.

As expected. Lagasse doesn’t come to Nola and build a restaurant like that unless stars will follow. Emeril’s is a lock. A local restaurant owner I was talking to about this thinks Saint Germain will get one as well.

I love Saint Germain. The food is incredible for the price.

I feel they have been more lenient on the one stars recently.

I definitely think Emeril's will get one. I don't think the food is worth two stars, but it's probably the only restaurant in the city that has the service and maybe food depending on the viewer for it.

Saint-Germain deserves a star regardless of the service. The food is arguably the best, and their wine list is done really well.

Dakar will probably get one.

Commander's for their legacy and possibly Restaurant R'evolution.

Other ones I can think of would be Mosquito Supper Club and maybe MaMou (not really a service place)

Michelin degraded itself on this front when it gave some relatively unknown BBQ joints stars in their TX review.

There have always been some exceptions.

There have been noodle places in asia that are holes in the wall with stars

It's too bad that Egg Roll King isn't still around to get its star.

Wow. This was not our experience at all. We kept apologizing for not finishing the food.

Emeril's

They did a massive renovation and revamp over the past few years and turned into a tasting menu place and it was very, very obvious they were pushing to get stars and michelin in NOLA.

I had to adjust my belt after leaving. I don’t know how a normal human leaves there hungry unless they wanted chicken tendies

Serious question - is Emeril's really that good? That much better than Commander's, August, Clancy's, the other nicer places in the city - food wise?

All this talk had me look at their menu and nothing really grabbed me like the nicer places usually do.
