Milk spoiled 6 days before the Best By date

There are specific grocers we will not buy milk from. (Insert qualification here - I have a master's in Microbiology with Biochemistry minor). My opinion is that some stores do mot get their fresh items into the cooler unit quickly enough or do not keep their coolers set low enough. An hour or two in the danger zone for milk storage, or meat storage can knock most of the shelf life off of a carton of milk, or a steak or roast. It can be deadly serious for chicken.

Watch that grocer in the future. You may want to change stores for your milk and meat.

There is a chain I won't mention (Walmart) that is the world's worst for receipt and proper in store care of milk products.

Just bought milk from Sam's. It lasted 8 days past it's exp date. Maybe it could have gone longer, but I finished it this morning.

Have you considered time travel to be the culprit?

Are you one of those people who leave milk out on the counter after you pour a glass?

Also, never buy the front carton or jug. It will be colder a carton or two back, and maybe newer, too since they push the oldest to the front to move it out first.

Also, strangers have cast their eyes upon your milk carton if you get the front one, and one can't be too careful.

I know. It creeps me out too, thinking that someone may have lusted over my milk, doing lord only knows what with their eyes. When you take that front carton, you always run that risk.

Just not worth it.

At least two or three back for me and my family.

We quit buying dairy from the local Target years ago because it would spoil early every time. Coworkers and friends had the same experience.

Our Kroger milk stays good to the date and beyond.

If you buy plastic, buy opaque not clear. The light makes milk go bad faster. We went on a Mayfield dairy field trip and that was a fun fact. Look at store next time. Expiration date on cartons or opaque jugs are 2 to 3 times longer than clear jugs.
So do you live in Tennessee? I could see the Mayfields plant from my grandmothers house in Athens.
