Mold on grill

Just took the cover off my grill to use it tonight. When I did I noticed mold on the cooking grates and the burner covers. Not happy. Plan is to take them tomorrow and wash them with soapy water and a brush, hose them off, then fire up the grill and let it burn for awhile.
I have never seen this before. I've had this grill for a few months and have used it only a couple of times. Wondering if the weather Tuesday night caused it. Stumped.

Just crank up the fire , burn it for one to two beers, brush if you must, and get to cookin.

I agree with all of the above. If you want to use soap and water, for the love of God rinse and dry it well, then let it burn. I have had someone grill me some soap chicken, and it wasn't good.

brush if you must,
Funny thing, my brush had mold on it too. It was on the condiment shelf on the grill, which is under the cover.

Grills are like self-cleaning ovens. Fire it up for a while (as hot as you can get it) and brush off the charred debris. Much more effective than detergent.

I always let my grill burn a little extra after the cook to clean up the grills. Saves time when I start up the next time.
