anyone else grow up eating this stuff? I can remember making it at my grandmas house during the summer while all the grand-kids played in the pool. The only thing i can remember ingredient wise was red Big Shot soda.

We made it with Barq's and condensed milk and it was good

I have a friend who's making it for us for the 4th. She makes the nectar sodas and the ice cream. I'll ask her for the recipe in the morning and post it for you if nobody else has it.

There's an actual product called Nectar Soda. It's pretty overpoweringly sweet if you're just drinking it, but it does go pretty well with ice cream and floats. It tastes a little different than most "nectar" snowball syrups I've had, too.

Their website is pretty uninformative about their product, though. Looks more like an electronic business card than a website.

The recipe I got is for the Plaquemine version, which I'm told differs from the New Orleans version. My friend calls it Ping Pong Ice Cream, but it's most of the same stuff as the nectar soda, which she also makes. You use strawberry pop in this. You used to make it with the Barq's strawberry pop, but it's not available anymore. So you have to use the Welch's strawberry soda.

Ping Pong Ice Cream (makes one quart- Cuisinart freezer size)

12 oz. Welch's strawberry pop
1 lg can Pet evaporated milk
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 tsp vanilla
2 tsp almond extract

Mix and freeze.
